There are actually people for this pipeline and they aren't even affiliated with it. I am assuming that the pipeline is fully functioning now ?

PSEG has been working on a 100 year old large gas line that has been leaking for years -- runs whole length of Brunswick -- they said it will be months until they can get it finished.

Grovepath, what is going on at Brunswick? I have smelled the gas there on several occasions and reported it to the police and fire department.

Letter: Tell state Sen. Jeff Van Drew that you don't want Pinelands gas pipeline

Editor:

It?s really sad when public officials like state Sen. Jeff Van Drew, elected to make important public decisions, choose to remain ignorant of the damage to the ecosystem from the ?fracking? process to obtain natural gas.

Van Drew, D-1st Dist., says he wants to do everything he can to overturn the Pinelands Commission?s decision to uphold its mandate to ?preserve and protect? the area by rejecting construction of a South Jersey Gas Co. pipeline for the B.L. England electricity plant south of Atlantic City.

?Make no mistake about it, we need to build this pipeline and I?m going to give it my level best to make it happen. I am asking the governor and Senate president to help in this process,? Van Drew?s statement in the Feb. 17 Cape May County Herald indicated.

Yes, of all people let?s ?ask the governor.? I think Gov. Chris Christie, New Jersey?s paragon of honor and integrity, has worked to push this pipeline through for the same reason Van Drew wants it ? for the special interests, over the overwhelming objections of the public.

Fuck spectra and their pipeline.

Gas and petroleum producers and infrastructure companies subvert democracy on a daily basis, kill the planet, and don't answer to anyone - least of all taxpayers.

Oral arguments in Spectra pipeline case to be heard Thursday

By Terrence T. McDonald/The Jersey Journal
February 10, 2014 at 6:50 PM

Opponents of the controversial Spectra Energy natural-gas pipeline snaking through parts of Hudson County will appear in a Washington, D.C., courtroom on Thursday to argue that the federal commission that approved the pipeline's construction did so without adequately considering significant environmental impacts.

Reversing approval of the pipeline, which went into service on Nov. 1, is a ?hopeless cause,? but the case to be heard Thursday could affect the way the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission reviews future pipeline proposals, said Ross Scott, the lawyer representing three environmental groups who opposed the pipeline.

"The reason why we're in court is to change the way FERC does business," Scott said today.

at what pressure?

the movement of fuel was never the issue. the movement of high quantities of fuel, at high pressure, using technology that's still being perfected, those are the giant red flags here.

How did this pipeline get finished so quick ? I thought there was a stop work order till all sides were heard. I guess the protests were for naught.

Activists Rally Against ?Hydro Fracking? Outside Of Chelsea Piers

http://newyork.cbslocal.com/video?aut ... No=default&clipId=9434184

Public Opinion On The Issue Remains Cautious
October 19, 2013 7:05 PM
CBS News

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) ? A method of pulling natural gas from deep underground has faced increased scrutiny in New York State.

Governor Cuomo may have been feeling some of the heat on Saturday when hundreds of environmental activists gathered near Chelsea Piers, CBS 2?s Steve Langford reported.

The group chanted ?Hey, hey, Cuomo, Hydro fracking has got to go.? The chant was a reference to hydraulic fracturing a natural gas extraction method often referred to as fracking.

?We want him to make a decision that really protects the residents of the city and protects the farms and the water resources of the state,? Wenonah Hauter of Food and Water Watch said.

The riverfront setting was no coincidence, Governor Cuomo was scheduled to host a lunch at a restaurant inside of Chelsea Piers. Protestors even mobilized a pair of boats to face the waterfront venue.

Whether the message made it to the governor is another matter. He was not at the event on Saturday. Lunch organizers were told two weeks ago that the governor would not be able to attend.

The state has launched a health study on the potential impact of fracking .

?Any decision on hydraulic fracturing will be based on the science and the facts,? the Governor?s Office told CBS 2.

Protestors appeared unsatisfied.

?It doesn?t matter that the fracking isn?t happening because the infrastructure is happening,? Sane Energy Project?s Clare Donohue said.

On November 1, a pipeline under the Hudson River near Gansevoort Street will begin carrying fracked natural gas into Manhattan from Pennsylvania.

Despite objections from protestors Spectra Energy claims the project is safe.

?The New York, New Jersey expansion project was built to meet and, or exceed all federal safety regulations and requirements,? Spectra said.

Public opinion about fracking remains cautious.

?I think it does a lot of damage but I don?t really know if we have many other options at this point,? Kristin Leighton said.

Supporters of fracking say the practice would mean an economic boom to several upstate counties and help end American dependence on foreign oil.

Pending a decision by the governor the protestors have no plans to stop.

Spectra will basically do whatever it wants. The best way to get them to stop doing anything is to spread public awareness of the complete BS situation JC is facing. One thing that public companies like this hate is negative media.

I believe that JC taxpayers are liable for a certain amount of damages as the insurance requirements imposed by the FERC and DOT were very minimal.

If that happens in Jersey City, what happens? Can Spectra be ordered to stop operating this pipeline? No idea how such things work.

Spectra says that the pipeline will be the safest in the US - which really is a meaningless statement if pipeline safety in the US generally sucks.

This is the cheapest route which is all that Spectra really cares about. Several other routes were proposed including running the pipeline straight from Bayonne, but these were rejected and instead they decided to go right along the turnpike.

Can anyone come up with a bullet point list of alternative routes for the pipeline to Nyc...if there were any ? And if there were why were they ignored ? What made this elected route the best one ?

I fear what happens once natural gas exporting becomes the norm and companies like Spectra see how easy it was to snake a dangerous pipeline right through JC.

The NJ coast WILL always be used to service the needs of NY and Manhattan in particular ... A few favors or a bunch of money to NJ politicians has been working for hundreds of years.

It would be interesting to know how much infrustructure, utility services, pipes, cables run from NJ to NY under the Hudson?

Spectra Energy to open controversial pipeline in weeks; testing begins Monday

By Terrence T. McDonald/The Jersey Journal

After years of heated opposition, Spectra Energy is set to begin running high-pressure natural gas through its controversial Hudson County pipeline by Nov. 1, with a testing phase involving nitrogen to begin Monday.

Jersey City officials have led the charge against the $857 million project, saying it will put the city?s residents at risk and threaten future development along the pipeline?s route, which winds through Bayonne, Jersey City and offshore Hoboken before heading into Manhattan

@Dolomiti - Bayonne is full of oil refineries right next to baseball fields. You want that for JC ? They really seem to hate fossil fuels.

Again, comparing trucking natural gas to running a pipeline right THROUGH the middle of JC completely ignores my whole argument. If it absolutely has to be done, then run it from Bayonne and avoid JC all together. Then you can still make your ridiculous argument supporting high pressure transport pipelines through heavily populated urban areas as some kind of safe cost-saving measure.

At least give the city and residents some say in the matter, especially when we are bearing all the risk for the benefit of NYCers. And even that is a stretch if the LNG Deepwater Port Ambrose project gets approved.
