I was getting some curtains hemmed at that little upholstery place on Grove, right near Post Net, and I mentioned to the owner that I'd typically not bring them such a puny job, but my sewing machine was acting up. He said, "let me take a look." A week and $30 later, it works great.

So, this guy isn't a sewing machine repairman by trade, but he's been sewing for decades and knows his tools. Might be worth dropping by and asking if he'll at least give it a gander.

I had my machine cleaned and serviced at a place in union city run by a Young Dominican man. Finding the guy was a pain as he apparently moves locations often and I don't speak Spanish and it was hard to understand the helpful directions given to me by folks in his former location. Very nice and very fast service.

The last time I tuned up my machine was, I believe, 2002 and I took it somewhere in Union City but I cannot remember where. Does anyone have a recommendation that is relatively near to Jersey City?
