Its relatively safe but not "fun". The whole J.sq area is set for development but it has been a long process and has been stalled for several years. Most of the fun happens downtown, so its just a train ride away.

Look at st johns across the street instead ( 3 condos buildings at 10 huron ave, 201 & 225 st pauls ), much better choice and nicer/quiet area away from the highway, also closer to jsq path.

Thanks for the response! If you don't mind me asking, how much did parking cost when you lived there? Aside from the one complimentary spot for each unit.

I lived there for two years. The units are quite nice and the building has a year-round pool, exercise room, and jacuzzi. There is a small green space. Some units on the lower floor have their own small terraces. Some upper units have balconies and some lovely views as well. Units have their own washers/dryers. It is a short walk to the PATH and Little India is two blocks away. The parking is interesting if you have to park on the roof - you drive into an elevator which takes a bit of getting used to. When I was there, the building was well managed and maintained. I never had an issue with safety - compared to my home in the Heights, I felt much safer in Journal Square.

The biggest downside is the noise. If you have your windows closed, you're fine. But you're right on Charlotte Circle and it gets incredibly noisy, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. The dust is incredible as well as the smell of car fumes.

If you're buying, watch the units with sliding doors that open to a patio or terrace. Make sure they are brand new. Some units were not fitted correctly and the amount of draft in the winter makes it very uncomfortable.

it's safe but not fun. sadly, most of jersey city is not really "fun" for 20 somethings (save for parts of downtown).

@user1111 What about the reverse commute on the NJTP? I work near exit 10 on the turnpike. Will the construction delay the commute significantly? Thanks for all your help and sorry about all the questions. Don't know much about the area and want to make sure the construction won't be a major issue.

From my understanding it should be done during the week from 7 AM till 4 PM so if you are working those hours you should be fine. If you work at night you are screwed.

I think that's one of the better areas of JSQ. Also 24-7 access to NYC, Downtown JC and Hoboken via PATH which is great because there isn't much around in JSQ.

I lived in Brunswick Towers from 2001 to 2007 - safety is not a problem.

You now have a great art venue nearby - the "Mana Contemporary Art Center" at 888 Newark Avenue

Also, they're about to start a 2 year renovation project on Polaski Skyway, you want to live near that?

Besides Little India, not much going on over there. I think its pretty safe, but some may have different views than I. I have lived in Harlem, LES, Hell's Kitchen & DTJC b4 gentrification and found all those places safe as well.

Walk around @ 10 PM you will know if you feel safe or not.

Thinking about moving to the area. Any insight is very appreciated. Does anyone know about those apts specifically. On the map it looks like they are right under the Pulaski Skyway (which I recently read is falling apart). Thanks for any help!!
