The HBO documentary "Fall to Grace," which focuses on former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey 's work as a spiritual advisor to women with substance abuse problems premieres at Kean University in Union County on Tuesday. Much of the footage shows McGreevey at work in the Hudson County jail in Kearny.
The premier starts with a reception at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed with a screening of ?Fall to Grace? at 7:30 p.m. on the 6th floor of Kean University's STEM Building at 1000 Morris Ave., Union.
After the screening there will be a panel discussion with a question and answer session with the former governor, Integrity House CEO Bob Budsock, and Hudson County Director of Corrections Oscar Aviles
The 48-minute movie depicts the personal journey of McGreevey -- from his declaration that he is "a gay American" and his resignation as governor in 2004, to his ?personal redemption? as a "spirituality advisor" for women facing grave obstacles.
These days, McGreevey does counseling work at Integrity House drug treatment centers in Newark and Secaucus, and the Hudson County jail in Kearny where he runs a program for 40 women called "Second Chance."
Film director Alexandra Pelosi, followed McGreevey for 18 months to document his counseling efforts on the streets of Newark and Jersey City. Pelosi is the daughter of the former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
After resigning in 2004, McGreevey turned to jailhouse ministering at Hudson County Correctional Center. as an academic requirement for his Episcopal seminary training.
Through his work at the correctional center, McGreevey became involved with Integrity House.
The movie will be air on HBO on Thursday.
