While it is technically not the maintenance worker's primary job function to play beat cop, the fact that security was this lax really makes you wonder what the hell people are paying ridiculous maintenance fees for. You would never see this shit happen in one of the newer buildings in Battery Park City. Then again, those folks easily fork out over a grand in maintenance alone, so I guess you get what you pay for...

Get rid of that maintenance worker, have better security measures ev en if you have to up the monthly fees. And this "biker" who is he ?? He obviously comes and goes quite frequently in the place especially a locked garage. I bet things will change now !

The tires of nearly a dozen cars parked in the garage of a Downtown Jersey City condominium complex were slashed yesterday, and the culprit may have been an unidentified male who was seen riding around the garage on a bicycle, according to police.

This series of tire-slashings comes less than a month after tires on 15 cars were slashed on Boyd Avenue on the city's West Side.

The supervisor of the Regent Street complex told police that one of his maintenance workers said the unidentified male entered the garage on a gold bike at about 3:45 p.m. yesterday, according to a police report.

The "possibly intoxicated" bike rider ?kept taunting? the maintenance worker as he tried to throw away trash, the report says.

A short time later, the maintenance worker saw the bike placed toward the rear of the garage on the bottom level, according to the report. When the worker went to check on his silver Honda Civic, he found all four tires slashed, the report says.

A subsequent check of the entire garage found tire damage on 10 other vehicles, the report says.

The supervisor told police the complex has ?limited surveillance? at the entrance to the garage, but that no one was observed entering or leaving on foot between the times of 3:45 and 7:30 p.m., according to the report.

Officers who responded to the scene took the bike as evidence. A fingerprint-check yielded negative results, the report says.

The worker told his superior that he has seen the bike rider in the building before, and the unidentified male has previously left his bike sitting near the garage's rear entrance, according to the police report.
