I just got a recorded message saying that ballots are available at the county clerk's office.
http://www.hudsoncountyclerk.org/ The site says to be sure your polling place is operational. Does anyone know how to check on updates for this-- whether poll workers expect things to be up and running in various areas?

Voter turnout uncertain for N.J.'s storm-crippled Democratic strongholds
By Jarrett Renshaw/Statehouse Bureau on November 01, 2012 at 1:40 PM, updated November 01, 2012 at 1:46 PM As a rule, Democratic candidates running for statewide office never have to fear losing Hudson and Essex counties. The real question is always the size of the victory. In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, that question has grown increasingly complex since most households in the densely populated counties are without power, and in some cases under several feet of water. Hoboken has National Guard troops on the ground still rescuing trapped residents and delivering food and medical supplies. The power is out in most of the city. Historically, the presidential election draws up to 20,000 voters to the polls there. ?I don?t think people are thinking about the election right now," Councilman Steven Fulop of Jersey City said today. ?We have households with children and no power, that?s their concern. So, I think turnout is going to less than usual.? For now, U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez and President Barack Obama both hold sizable leads over their Republican challengers in the polls, and even a storm like the one that tore through the state earlier this week is highly unlikely to alter the outcome. Monmouth and Ocean counties ? both decidedly Republican ? were also devastated by the storm, but those areas are less populous. ?You are going to see a marked drop-off in both urban and suburban areas,? Al Barlas, the Republican chairman in Essex County, said. In 2006, Menendez beat his Republican opponent, state Sen. Tom Kean Jr., by more than 200,000 votes, buoyed in large part by huge pluralities in Hudson and Essex counties. Together, they delivered a 138,645-vote plurality for Menendez, more than half his margin of victory. And in 2008, Obama won the state by 602,215 votes, with Hudson and Essex representing more than 1 of every 3 winning votes that put him over the top. Barbara A. Netchert, the clerk in Hudson County, said the county is now allowing voters to cast absentee ballots, and that anyone who is registered can come to her Jersey City office, fill out the forms and vote. ?We are trying to make it easier for people,? Netchert said. She said her office, which is operating with limited electricity, also extended its hours to 8 a.m. to sunset. ?I?d be open to 10 at night, but once the sun goes down, you can?t see,? Netchert said. Robert Thigpen, the Essex County Democratic chairman, said he planned to meet with local party chairmen on Saturday to assess the challenges and develop a get-out-the-vote plan. ?The biggest thing is people getting to the polls,? Thigpen said. ?We have limited gas and power, but it looks like its working out better each day. People are getting out and it?s a question of people getting to the polls.? Thigpen said officials were considering renting more buses and other forms of transportation to make sure voters can get the polls. As officials began assessing the damage from the storm, there was some speculation the election might be postponed. But Gov. Chris Christie told party chairmen Wednesday to prepare for Election Day. http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2012 ... html#incart_river_default
