IMO not necessarily; real estate is mostly governed by state law. I would use locals for other parts of the transaction, especially home inspection.

Happy New Year folks!
Thinking about using James Morris mentioned on this thread but noticed his office is in Monmouth County. Would using a non- local attorney be a bad idea?
Thanks!

We just closed one opposite her. She was as described above, very engaged, cooperative & constructive in a difficult deal that took nearly a year. My attorney was great too, but not local, he's in Middlesex county.

Is very good, also with short sales, but she is not cheap but she is fast, I closed in 3 months.

I need someone who specifically has experience with short sales. We intend to buy a short sale. Are any of the above particularly good with this?

Whatever you do, don't use Robert P. Weinberg, Esq in Bayonne.

Who was your attorney for the contract review? If he or she is competent, that lawyer would be the best to get your deposit back.

They absolutely should only take the fee if the deal closes, unless you have requested some inordinate service outside of routine closing.

John Moss for inspection. My real estate agent didn't like him at all - which is a GOOD sign!!! Very detailed, and experienced.

Hi All,

Do any of you know of any reputable lawyers helping clients with condo purchases? Ones that will really "read" the contract and explain to you if it is unfair?

I don't trust my realtor's suggestions (he is also the seller's agent) so I am asking the community for advice.

I am also looking for an inspector. Any advice? This purchase will be in Jersey City and it is a condo.

Anyone out here know a good lawyer for purchasing a co op in Manhattan. A friend of mine is purchasing a coop in Mid town East and bit lost as to where to start. I know this is a Jersey city forum but I am hoping that there someone here just might know one, given how close we are to Manhattan.

Thanks in advance

Jame Morris. He was AMAZING! And CHEAP! (closing for $475).

He saved us from getting into BIG trouble and the 1st property we were after. Quick, smart, responsive.

He's the best!

PS. AVOID PETER HUMBLIAS!

Sue Nebelkopf (on Kennedy Blvd in JSQ) rocks.

I've dealt with her a lot.

My one experience with Irwin Rosen was very positive.

Irwin Rosen. Smart, nice, thorough, experienced.
Easy to deal with and has a staff and nice office on JSQ.
Joe Scanlon in Hoboken also very, very good.
