City Hall Pet Owner's Day Caps Off The Best - & Most Extensive - Pet Owner's Day Series EVER! Tomorrow, 6/23, 11am - 3pm

The final stop on this year's Pet Owners Day Clinic Roadshow kicks off at 11am tomorrow,Saturday,? 6/23, @ City Hall Plaza, 280 Grove Street!

Over the last three years, Pet Owner?s Day has grown dramatically from one event at City Hall in 2010 to a record scheduled EIGHT events at various locations across Jersey City. This year, Pet Owner's Day was able, in addition to the traditional FREE rabies shots for BOTH dogs and cats, to offer FREE wellness shots to any dog or cat whose owner is a resident of Jersey City, courtesy of an ASPCA $10k grant:

■ For Dogs (4 in 1) DA2PP = Distemper, Adenovirus 2 (also called Hepatitis), Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus.
■ For Cats (3 in 1) FVRCP = Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia (cat distemper).

?It's residents last chance to take advantage of this wonderful ASPCA grant for Wellness Shots," said Mayor Healy. ?We felt it was important during these difficult economic times to find private funding for animal health and hope that all pet owners keep their animals up to date on all necessary shots, as well as renew their pets' licenses!?

NOTES:

■ Now is the time to renew all one year tags or face the fines! PSSST! Tag Fido for 36 months straight and you'll get a better deal! Animal Control Personnel will be on hand to help you with all that!
■ Due to the hot weather, please bring iced water for your pets
■ Don't forget to download ASPCA Tips on how to keep your pet healthy, cool, and safe during the summer months, especally the 4th of July.
?

Thanks, bodhipooh. Your kinds words are much appreciated.

If you want to come to the clinic we can give you the second round of shots. The Grant from the ASPCA allowed us to purchase these vaccinations so we can give them at no charge.

Depending on the Vet Rabies shots are given between 4 and 6 months old. Your first Rabies shot is considered a 1 year shot. Your second rabies shot (given a year later) is a "three year shot". This is why we now offer the three year license.

PFA will be at our clinics giving the shots as well as booking the appointments Spay and Neuter. PFA gives the rabies vaccination during the procedure at no charge. Please consider Micro-chipping your dog and at 25.00 you can't beat the price.

Thank you for the quick response, Robin.

My guy is currently up to date in his shots, but he will be due for his next round of vaccination next week, so I thought I could go in and get it done this weekend. Also, and most importantly, thank you very much for clarifying the licensing requirements. I didn't realize the licensing was not due until they had reached 7 months of age.

Have a great day, and thank you for all work and effort. It is appreciated by many, even if we fail to express it at times.

3 months old is too young for the rabies vaccination which is required for licensing. Dogs 7 months and older are required to be licensed in New Jersey. You are not in any violation because of the age of the dog.

If your new puppy has not has his/her puppy shots I urge you to come to the clinic and get these shots that we are giving for free. After the dog is 4 months old you should get him/her fixed and license after that.Quote:

If the dog being vaccinated and registered is still a puppy (12 weeks) and, therefore, not yet neutered, which license fee would be due?? I fully plan to get him "fixed", but I don't know if my promise to do so is enough to qualify for the discounted fee applicable to neutered dogs. The difference is not much, so it is not really much of a concern, but I was wondering if there was a policy already defined for puppies.

Thanks!

and congratulations on your new 4 legged child.

Jersey City dog owners must renew their dog licenses by June 30 (all single-year licenses expired April 30) or face fines and late fees, city officials say.

All licenses are effective May 1; single-year licensing fees are $8 for neutered dogs, $12 unneutered. Residents can also license their dogs for 36 months at a reduced per-year rate ? $20 for neutered dogs, $30 unneutered. Proof of neutering and a rabies vaccination certificate will be required upon licensing.

?This is a particularly good time to renew your dog?s license because we are currently in the middle of our Pet Owner?s Day Clinics,? said Mayor Jerramiah Healy in a statement. ?Every clinic has Animal Control personnel who will help residents process the paper work to update their dog?s license. A rabies shot is required to license, and, of course, those are free at any of our Pet Owner?s Day Clinics.?

Attendees of the Jersey City Pet Owner?s Day Clinics can get free rabies and 4-in-1 DA2PP shots (Distemper, Adenovirus 2 (also called Hepatitis), Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus) for all licensed dogs.

The clinics are held from 11 am to 3 pm on the following dates at these locations:

Saturday, June 2nd Riverview/Fisk Park, Palisades Avenue.
Sunday, June 10th, Lincoln Park Running Track Parking Lot
Saturday, June 16th, Arlington Park, 785 Grand St.
Saturday, June 23rd, City Hall Plaza, 280 Grove St.

Residents can obtain a dog license application online.
