You may want to try Daisy Cleaners on the corner of Central Ave. & South St. I have had my driy cleaning & tailoring done there for years & am happy with the service.

I might also add that State Cleaners also does an excellent job of tailoring clothing also.

Did Sanitary Valet on Grove Street close? The security shutter has been down on both this dry cleaner and the adjacent boutique for at least a week now.

Just curious if anyone has used Lisa's dry cleaning? It's the closest one to me so I want to use them for convenience but I need to have suit pants dry cleaned for a job interview next week and I can't risk something happening to those pants.

Sanitary ruined one of my garments a few years ago. I brought it back to Maria (i think i had the receipt) and she was very apologetic and said they'd give me the money but I had to come back for it. I had to go back four times, asking for the money. There was always some excuse. I don't know if they thought that I would eventually forget it. When i finally lost my patience, they said, 'ok ok ok, here's your money'.

So I got my dress shirts back from Sanitary Cleaners about 3 days ago. Went to wear one today, and noticed that a part of the shoulder is shredded/destroyed.

This is a $120 custom shirt, and a fairly new one at that. Maria is really nice but I can't less this go without telling her.

My question is, what is the protocol for something like this? Has anybody ever had luck getting money, or a large discount, from a cleaner for ruining a shirt? I'd like to know of any past experiences (not just at Sanitary, but anywhere) before I go in to talk to her tonight.

Thanks!

I really like Liberty Harbor Dry Cleaners on Grand near Jersey Ave. Really nice people, they always do a great job.

Try the new place -- Lisa's on Newark Avenue -- between Monmouth & Brunswick! They got all kinds of specials going on right now.

Another vote for Star at Newark and Coles. They are friendly and, when they didn't quite get it right a couple of times, they were more than happy to do it again.

There is a cleaner on Newark Ave about a half block from the Grove PATH that is organic. They told me their method doesn't use a chemical, I assume it is the same one. I can't recall the price, but it wasn't unreasonable.
For location though, I go to the one on Jersey/5th. My only complaint is that they've used starch when I asked them not to.
I went to them a while ago and they were quick, kind, and decently priced.

Do you know of any inexpensive Dry Cleaners in JC? I am in Paulus Hook area. Have a bunch of sweaters and coats to dry clean but don't want to spend a whole lot on it. Any recommendations?

Assuming that the cold~ish weather is behind us, I'd like to have about a bazillion sweaters, coats, etc, dry cleaned and was hoping for a reasonably inexpensive solution. Maybe there's a "by the pound" dry cleaner here in the downtown? Maybe you've paid less than $3.00/sweater?

Please share, thanks.

Haven't had to try it myself, but the cleaner I use (Carnival Cleaners on Jersey at 5th St.) does dry cleaning on premises and I'm almost positive they offer same day dry cleaning. Does not apply to laundering shirts, which they send out.

Is there a spot downtown where I can drop off a suit in the morning, and have it back by end of day?

I've been using:

Tailor's Touch
358 7th Street, Jersey City, NJ 07302-1805
(201) 418-9008

for about 7 years now, and have been very happy. They have never lost nor damaged anything. Fast turn around time, good hours, pleasant disposition, very professional and of course very good work.

Although my BF goes here all the time with no problems, the ones time I used the place on Columbus right next to Shampoo-- the place they send out to WASHED my wool work dress ($400) and shrunk it instead of dry cleaning it as I asked. They attempted to stretch it out but did not offer me any compensation-- it's totally misshapen and worthless. This was my one experience and my last. They may be fine with men's clothing but I would never ever trust them for my stuff again. If anyone knows a downtown area dry cleaner where they do the work on the premises, I find these are the most trustworthy.

I'm on Sherman between Griffith and Bowers, and one of the closest to me is State Cleaners at South St and Webster Ave.

State cleans its orders in house, and uses a computer system to track orders by telephone number, but it might charge more than others.

We've been using New Model Cleaners on Kennedy, off of Bleecker St. for a few years. Reliable and good.

Not sure if it's close enough to you though.

I am looking for a reliable dry cleaner in the Heights (I am on Sherman Avenue, between Franklin and Hutton). While there is a laundromat with dry cleaning services practically next door, their command of English is not good and repairs don't get made - and sometimes I get the feeling they don't even know what a suit is...

Anyone have a good experience with someplace in the vicinity? Thanks!

nicole is excellent; uses "organic" stuff (whatever that means right now); quick turnaround ...

we have used it for several years, never had a problem that was not resolved immediately ...

for a while we used national cleaners at pavonia and erie ... my shirts were typically jammed into the box --- 8 shirts in a box that fits 6 ... bad ....

I've been going to the Dry Cleaning/Laundering place on Newark ave since I moved here 5 years ago. Its the place just a few hundred feet from the Grove Path. Golden Dry Cleaners. I remember when my laundered shirts were 1.25 and pants 3 dollars. Now the shirts are 2 dollars and the pants are 5 dollars. What other options do I have downtown that would be recommended?
