Just one more from me ?seeing that it is Earth Day today (4/22) I had to do my part...

For everyone ?..this is a 76 page report from 2010 on I guess you can say the health of HC. It has some very interesting facts and stats about HC. Population, crime, building permits, birth/death rates, grad/drop out rates, Path ridership, open space, etc?

Hudson County
Community Indicator Report

http://www.hudsoncountynj.org/SharedF ... eid=11&fileid=137&mid=183

(for JC182.......)

35. Recycling Data?(starts page 66)

Nice chart with data up to 2007

36. Solid Waste Data?(starts page 67)

Nice chart with data up to 2008

37. Water Quality Data?starts Page 68)

How are we doing?

Mixed- Local surface water quality in the Hackensack River, Hudson River, Kill Van Kull,
Newark Bay and Passaic River has been historically poor in Hudson County due to
anthropogenic and natural factors. Urban runoff and continued construction along the waterfronts
also contributes to the poor water quality.18 The waterways have improved in quality over recent
years through upgrades made in sewage treatment facilities, increased conservation efforts and
recreational uses along the rivers as well as the remediation of superfund sites.

Nice detailed charts with levels of the following in our water ways?

Fecal Coliform Bacteria
Nitrogen
Dissolved Oxygen

Hudson County Improvement Authority?s

http://www.hcia.org/

Solid Waste Management

The HCIA is responsible for planning, implementation, management and enforcement of the Hudson County Solid Waste Management Plan.

Each and every day, Hudson County residents generate more than 1,500 tons of solid waste! Much of this can be harmful to our environmentif disposed of improperly. Making certain that this trash is disposed of in an environmentally sound and cost-effective manner is the highest priority for the HCIA and its Division of Solid Waste

Despite rising costs associated with all aspects of solid waste and the increasing shortage of safe, available landfill space, the HCIA remains committed to managing Hudson County's solid waste disposal program in the most environmentally safe manner at the absolute least cost to taxpayers.

Recycling Tonnage

Here at the Hudson County Improvement Authority we know that removing and reducing waste from the solid waste stream helps decrease the flow of solid waste to the landfills and preserves our environment. We also know that proper discarding of those materials helps reduce the costs associated with garbage disposal in Hudson County. Here in our County, the HCIA works hard to recycle as much as possible and with your help we are getting a lot done!

(link to above tonnage piece has a nice chart, it didn't copy so here is the link)

http://www.hcia.org/index.php?option= ... w=article&id=26&Itemid=29

(Look around all of the links that were posted you should get enough to get you and your group an A+ )

(oh yeah I don't know if you want to use this on your paper but the one place in Jersey City that generates the most garbage every year is ....City Hall!)
