I'm basically a lurker and reader, but wanted to say how proud I am of my nephew and his classmates. I am so excited for them. I know some of them and they are just beside themselves with excitement. The work they're doing is amazing and I'm glad they're being rewarded for it. They won an all expense paid trip and beat out over 10,000 students with their project. They have a website that I know my nephew works on

I haven't been in years, since they drained it. I've taken the kids there to fish in the past, but not for a while. Not open yet this year. . . . http://www.jcreservoir.org/visit

One of the students who participated lives next door to me. A group of the neighbors are very proud of her.
And where was our mayor on this occasion? I can tell you where he wasn't.

This is great news.
The City has already agreed to preserve the Reservoir as open space. This was one battle that was fought and won a few years ago. It's great to see that it has paid dividends so quickly. I would really recommend a visit to Reservoir #3 to everyone. It is a unique location in the city.

Thirty Jersey City Heights schoolkids win grand prize trip to Disney World and $10,000 for their Reservoir Project
Quote: Seventh-graders at the Christa McAuliffe School 28 in Jersey City Heights were expecting an assembly about Earth Day at 10 a.m. yesterday. The good news is that they won, and they are going to Disney World. The bad news is their proposal probably doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of succeeding. Maybe this prize will elevate the issue enough so that the reservoir will be preserved as a resource instead of turned into just another city block. . . .
