Prosecutor: Jersey City man shot and killed on Ocean Avenue, may have known assailants

Published: Saturday, March 10, 2012, 11:08 AM
Updated: Saturday, March 10, 2012, 12:32 PM

By Stephanie Musat/ For The Jersey Journal

A 21-year-old Jersey City man was shot multiple times and killed this morning, possibly with more than one gun, according to authorities.

Police are still investigating the scene, at 585 Ocean Ave., where the victim was found with multiple gun shot wounds, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio. The victim, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene, DeFazio said.

DeFazio said it seems the victim, who lives on Myrtle Avenue, was walking past a building on Ocean Avenue when someone called to him from inside. When he approached the building, one, or possibly more, people fired, DeFazio said.

"This may be a case where the victim knew his assailant or assailants," he said.

As of this morning, no one has been charged.

DeFazio said witnesses are being interviewed, and anyone with information should contact the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office at (201) 915-1345.
