I suggest Chill Town Studio. They are quite knowledgeable and have equipment to rent if needed.

You can try over on the good side of town?here are three artsy warehouse type places on Newark Ave (below India Square area) I don?t know anything about them now but remember reading about them. (I knew about them back in the day when there were just factories) Maybe you can get something out of it?.good luck.
Mana Contemporary Art Center 888 Newark Ave. www.manafinearts.com *** *** TOPPS building 930 Newark Ave. There is a place called 113 Design Company at 930 Newark Ave. Their website doesn?t work but they are freatured in this website?check out the cool video.. www.fotocare.com/blog/photogra ... studio-113-design-company *** *** Canco Lofts 50 Dey St. www.CancoLofts.com If they let this French out of town-er shoot in this cool space why not a JC resident? French photographer's exhibit '50 Dey Street' shows traces of life in abandoned Jersey City space http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... tographers_exhibit_5.html

wow, thanks! just reached out to a handful of these places, and they were all more receptive to the idea than I thought they'd be.
(Parlay Studios does actually have a space that's in mid-renovation, and perfect. alas, it is booked.)

150 Bay Street is starting to build out the loading dock level of its building - still quite unfinished.
Toll Brothers is starting to gut its buildings in the PAD - the old Leo Cooke Warehouse is very raw and very run down. Couldn't hurt asking them. CitySide Archive on Second Street is also fixing up its building - so raw space inside it might be open. Next door at Parlay Studios, it is an open space - but not run down. I occasionally see people walking in and around the Butler Brothers building at 350 Warren... owner might be into renting out space for a shoot...

Can anyone recommend a raw open space to rent for a photo/video shoot? Or a studio that's got an unpolished space?
There's one listed in the NYC production resource guide, but they're all booked up.
