jc-arch, your dealing with a gas fire appliance, Sometimes trying trying to be a DYIer is not a good idea. Id call a local heating repair company. Try searching Google, yelp, etc.

PLaying with gas is no joke.

I highly recommend Manfred Tschopp. He's one of the few honest and competent contractors I've had come to my home. His number is (973) 779-3112

Second that. The damper on the exhaust might be stuck open. If the pilot light is out and you are getting cold air blowing in, then the damper is definitely open.

Thanks, Brewster! I'll give that a shot. I'm trying to be more DIY to save $$. That can't hurt. But it's great to have a rec for someone to call anyways.

Have you tried using canned air to blow the dust out of the pilot nozzle? If the flame is low it doesn't heat the thermocouple and the valve shuts off the gas. If you're not DIY, try Royal, they're great guys.

Does anyone have a recommendation for someone who can repair a gas furnace at a reasonable price? I have to re-light my pilot light several times a day, and it's getting pretty cold out. I could really use someone reasonable and reliable...

Thanks!
