I take the ferry pretty regularly and the commute is much better then the PATH. However the schedule of every half hour does not always work out for me. The buses in the evening keep a reliable schedule except during holidays and UN events. You might miss your boat once in a while due to traffic and then have to wait half an hour for the next one.

Hi! We would be happy to answer any questions you may have about our service. You can also check us out on Facebook at www.facebook.com/nywaterway
Our riders always say the commute is pleasant. The boats are not overcrowded like other methods of transportation, and you can get to where you have to go with ease and comfort. You can find the Paulus Hook link here: http://www.nywaterway.com/PaulusHookTerminal.aspx The link above will give you all PH info. For the Paulus Hook to Midtown route, you can visit this link: http://www.nywaterway.com/PaulusHookRoute.aspx There are always buses waiting for each incoming ferry at our Midtown location, servicing 57th, 50th, 42nd, 34th, and downtown routes. Be sure you choose the correct route for PEAK and OFF PEAK service. All bus info can be found here: http://www.nywaterway.com/BusStopsSchedules.aspx Don't forget, we also have a new iPhone and Android App! http://www.nywaterway.com/MobileAppDownloads.aspx Hope this info helps! I took the ferry regularly when I lived in Hoboken, because sitting on the top deck with the sun and wind in my face was an awesome way to start the day.
Hoped to continue this habit when I moved to JC, but the Paulus Hook - to- midtown ferry is (or at least was) an older, smaller boat, completely enclosed. The 15-minute ride (with one stop at Newport) made me so seasick I had to go back to using the PATH. Here's the shuttle bus schedule: http://www.nywaterway.com/BusStopsSchedules.aspx
