Train Derailed After Colliding With Car

Service resumed late Monday morning on the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail.

A train derailed at about 3 a.m. when it collided with a car.

The vehicle became wedged between the train and a utility pole. The driver of the car had to be extracted and

The car became wedged between the train and a utility pole. The driver of the car had to be extracted and was expected to recover from non-life threatening injuries.

NJ Transit spokeswoman Penny Bassett Hackett said it appears the car ran a red light when it was struck on 6th Street.

There were no passengers on the train.

There were delays in both directions between Tonnelle Avenue and 8th Street in Bayonne. Buses were transporting customers between Harsimus Cove and Newport stations.
