I saw a couple of kids splashing around in the fountains at Hamilton Park over the weekend. So there's always that to bridge the gap until the splash area opens.

I cannot wait to read the comments on here when everyone does go to Johnston Ave., the same area a lot of you say is seedy and dangerous but let a free pool be open and all of that changes right? The same people who live in this area will be at the pool as well, rowdy kids and all. I for one cant wait for the pool to open as we live only a few blocks away, it will be no country club and I know it is going to be PACKED, it is a really nice looking pool though with a seperate play area for the little kids. The park next door is very nice as well. Hope to see all you DT'ers there!

Charge $500 for the season, keep the trash out! Not trying to be rude or anything... but if the Golf Course costs $$$$$, why can't they make a private or more costly pool club and keep it really nice.

I believe there should be something for everyone, and there seems to options for those that may not be able to afford a seasonal membership. I want a cabana boy to bring me towels and mist me with cold water, cocktails and lunch pool side.. thats what Im talking about... LOL (not really)

Just got off the phone with the architect's office. Looks like the Johnston Ave. pool will open at the end of June, when schools get out (June 27th). There was a problem with the previous contractor, who has been booted, and they need to fix something, before it is safe for swimming. I think keeping the calls going, will keep them working on it. I certainly wouldn't want to see end of June pass, and no pool yet...

Let's try to get back on topic: I called 547-5003 and 547-4449 to try to get an answer as to when the pool will open. I was told everything from we don't know to waiting on clearance, blah blah. I noted that most municipal pools open Mem Day weekend and was told that "summer doesn't officially begin for 21 days" and that JC often times it around when the schools end.

This is all total bs. The pool should be open now, it's almost 90 degrees outside. I encourage people to call the numbers above so that the "parks and rec" people at least know the residents are interested in an open pool.

If Fulop or any other other council members can help, please do so. It's an embarassment that we were told all summer last year that the pool would open and it looks like the same run around is going on this year....

Real or weave both are nasty. I Guess the reason I said weave was because I actually have seen weave hair fall out of peoples heads into the pool.

I agree with the swim caps idea, but what makes a clump of real hair any less nasty than a clump of weave?

Shria: Every pool in JC except for the one at Pershing Field is FREE. You just show up. I've been to several of them. They are usually dark and are SOMETIMES clean. You will see weave hair and other shit floating in the free pools OFTEN, Yes, I know because I have swum in many of the pools here.
They keep the pool at Pershing Field pretty clean, FYI...but it is indoors. It has a retractable roof, but it broke 3 summers ago and has yet to be fixed.

Canonguy....hehehehe A nice pool club here? You gotta go to Bayonne or Secaucus for that. The new pool they have been working on here is on Johnson Ave...an area nothing like downtown. They have said for several years this pool would open, so don't get your hopes up. It will be just like the only other public outdoor JC pool....Always packed and DIRTY. They should force people, all people, to wear swimming caps like they do at the public pools in Elizabeth as to avoid huge clumps of mostly weave hair from floating in the pool. NASTY!

For the pool at PS 16 - how does one get in? I mean, do I pay a membership to someone/somewhere? does my kids have to go to PS 16 (which we don't)?

Would be awesome to be able to find a place for my kids to swim this year (without involving public transportation).

TIA.

Hey, what pool was supposed to open? That would be great if a nice pool club opened. Way way, okay.. WAY back in the day.. there was a pool called the caba?a club at the foot of LSP.... then I guess it became public, and eventually close down. This is exactly what JC needs.

Anyone know when the splashpark at Hamilton Park will open? Same for that new pool that was supposed to open last year near Liberty State Park? Thanks...
