Stopped in Nick's last night to get a pie. Talked to the owner a little. Very nice guy.

Pizza was thin, folded well, crust has a nice chew to it. I appreciated that the crust itself wasn't overly thick like some places on Newark ave. Sauce and cheese were decent. The thing I noticed most was that the crust itself lacked flavor. I don't know if it's appropriate to say the dough needed more salt but it tasted bland on its own. For me, the crust of a really good slice has to stand on its own and not just be a delivery for the cheese and sauce.

Also had a few of the garlic knots/rolls. These were very good and very garlicky. I asked for the marinara on the side because I didn't want them to get soggy on the way home. Not sure if this is the same sauce that's used on the pizza but it was very good.

I'm definitely going back and while maybe not the best slice downtown, they beat some of the old standby's hands down.

Victorias pizza is by far the best best pizza I have had in Jersey City. I was there last night and they had a Monday special 2 large pies for $12

I have written my first review as I search for the best slice in Jersey City. Check out the blog and let me know if you've had similar experiences or think I'm just damn wrong. I've suddenly began to have some weird unrealistic fear of pizza owners banning me from their establishments. Only one way to find out. My team of pizza lovers will hit the 2nd shop on Wednesday, so do check back often. Cheers for reading.

That sounds like research that I could get on board with! You should apply to the city for funding...you just might get it. They may even give you an Infiniti to get you from pizza joint to pizza joint.[/quote]

lol. maybe they can pay for the oxygen i breathe too while i ride my bike from place to place and construct my criticism.

We just went back to La Rustique after a long while (it's a drive for us now that we live in Paulus Hook)... Had a plain, a mushroom and a pepperoni. Thin crust and spot on. Loved it as usual...

Ceasar salas was fresh and perfectly dressed - not too soggy and croutons were HOMEMADE (awesome!)

Service was really pleasant and though I was quoted a 45 minute wait for delivery - the order was delivered within 30 minutes.

They clearly care about their food and service. We'll be ordering from them again!

Just got back from 3 guys? I went in at the lunch time, there was a pack of people and wasn?t an orderly line to make an order. Maybe this is how it works, so I was waiting in line and out comes a friend so I decided step out and catch up for a bit before heading back in and the line hasn?t died down.. So I just yelled out 2 slices some 5 mins later I got it.. The pies run out very quickly, but they are baking 5 or 6 pies at a time so its not much of a wait for the pizza..

Now the pizza, it?s not all that great.. For 2 bucks Rizzo?s gives you bigger slice with better sauce.. The 3 guys just tasted average.. I?m someone who likes to pulls the cheese from pizza and eat the slices plain and taste the sauce, and this was just an ok pizza you get everywhere else....

Buon Appetito: thin, crispy, just the right ratio of crust to sauce to cheese, big slice, fair price.
Their salads also look good although I've never had them.

Microwave ! Are you kidding, maybe for defrosting but the toaster oven is the way to go. Never nuke dough.

I normally would agree - but try a frozen Carmine's Sicilian slice - two minutes in the old microwave and you'll see!

Sure a convection oven is better - but you will still love the slightly rubbery nuked one - the crust really can't be hurt!

OK, maybe I was just hungry...

The first stop on my quest for the best slice in Jersey City is completed. Will post the findings on Friday. The experience was satisfying in some ways and left much to be desired in others. Please check back for (the)Skinny.

it's probably not a true pizza, but more a pizza bread, but I love the individual servings at the 2nd st. bakery.

there are reasons not to like it (the cheese is often charred and too rubbery and it's too salty) but it all somehow works.

they used to have it in log form (which I preferred) but now I think they only serve it in rounds?

Carmine's has the best Sicilian. The ratio of sauce/cheese/bread is perfect, and the crust is perfect. I'll pass on their regular slice though, and everything else on the menu.

I may be crazy but Michael's Pizza and Video on Eire has the best old-fashioned, Americanized, greasy, floppy slice around. Again, the ratio, the key to a good pie, is perfect. And the eggplant parm sandwich (and from what I hear the chicken parm too), is worth the walk alone, as they don't deliver. They are the only ones to cook a parm sandwich right in this city.

Me and my friends start this long quest of finding the best slice in Jersey City tomorrow. Feel free to check back at the blog for updates, reviews and hopefully good reads.

Rizzo and Pizza Master are both Italian owned. Richie at Pizza Masters has a nice Italian restaurant in the back you\'ll probably always run into somebody from the Heights in there. I believe he also has another in the Liberty Park area. Rizzo\'s is a great little spot for weekday lunches they have an array of hot foods for either take out of dine in. It\'s a simple place for quick decent Italian food.

Portifino Pizzeria and Gino's pizzeria, both on Central ave in the Heights. Portinfino actually has a good deal for a pizza and soda. Gino's i have to admit has gone a little down since i was a kid, but there still pretty good

I'd think this topic should focus on regular slices as opposed to brick oven but unfortunately most pizza parlors use the same supplier such as Lisanti in Totawa, N.J. which make them all have a uniform taste.

I agree that Grimaldi's in Hoboken has the BEST slice around.

If I had to pick a JC location, I would pick John's pizza over on Sussex - It has to be a slice of their Margarita (which uses fresh mozzarella vs. their regular pizza which uses a Pollo-O type mozzarella).

I have to admit I haven't tried many places in JC, but after living in Brooklyn 10 years with the best options, I really enjoy 3 Guys from Italy in JSQ. It's not fancy-just a great slice.
I would NOT recommend Prince of Pizza-too soggy for my liking.
Good luck-I look forward to your results!
