Agreed Vigilante. I'm looking out at my street right now. There are about 5 empty spaces between the last car and corner. Shut down the street, plow and doze out those spots, get the few remaining cars to move into the newly cleared ones, clear out the other spots.

This is what I am talking about, an actual plan. Vigilante, how about you and I go run the OEM for this incident.

Wonder if the JCIA is in a slow down to prevent layoffs. If Healy were anatomically correct, he'd have fired Oren Dabney by the end of yesterday.

I am from a place were people actually know winter comes once a year. I am still not sure why we are still having road problems 2-3 days after the blizzard (and stopped snowing) I have been here almost 10 years and our last one in a few years ago the roads were cleared much faster than this. What does our half a billion dollar budget go to? I am guessing that plowing would cut into the payoffs.. ohh wait. according to the courts it isnt a payoff if it is thrown into the back seat of your car... Our taxes are going up by massive amounts yearly, and with the tax reval we will get clobbered but not see any additional services.. heck would be nice to drive down the street 3 days after a blizzard started. Also out of curiosity, I saw in another post that some of the drivers were furloughed.. of course i dont know for sure nor can confirm this directly, but what about the street sweeper and parking authority, are they also furloughed in weather like this? And if we are laying off 80 cops the theory was to save enough money to make the city run, so again where are the plows? Also yesterday saw plows running down streets filled with salt driving down unplowed or barley plowed streets with plows up and no salt coming out. Considering Healy held the tax hike until after he was elected (which ended up costing us more and almost 18k in spending went to each voter) why are there not more pitchforks and bonfire type activities goin on here? While I am being figurative here, why is this allowed to continue? Why do people keep voting old corrupt people in who do nothing but talk about what they are doing, hold multiple tax payer jobs and then looking at you like a cow looks at a new gate when you question their actions? OK JCListers I am off my Soap Box now, But what is a better solution??

We received a call late last night as well. This is typical of the administration. Let's call people in the middle of the night to move their cars.

Maybe if the OEM managed this blizzard properly and not like FEMA things would be operating more smoothly. Now I am the first to admit that this indeed was a bad storm and I fully realize that it will take a few days to get operations back to normalcy. However

The city FAILED to inform residents and motorists not to drive on any of the roads during the storm or the day after the storm. Any non emergency vehicles operating on the road ways should have be ticketed and impounded (just because the notion of a ticket doesn't keep most people from driving).

The city FAILED to properly organize all agencies working as a unified force. I don't even know if there was a unified command, multiple single commands, or even an EOC established and operated by the city. The JCIA, DPW, JCPD, JCFD and other agencies that are plow capable should have been working together to open up the streets and public walkways and corners. Those public works personnel not operating plows should have been organized into shoveling task forces.

The city continues to FAIL to provide accurate and consistent information to the public to help manage this incident and the city FAILS to plan accordingly. Some examples:
- Garbage will be picked up a day late and then is not picked up at all.
- Residents need to move their vehicles for curb to curb plowing. The information is poorly distributed and at a late hour. Residents are not told on what days and times specific roads will be cleared (I'm sorry but the city will not get to all streets at once). Residents are also not provided any information as to where to move their vehicles to.
- Residents need to remove their cars by digging them out, but can't dig out their cars because there isn't any place to put the snow except the street, which if caught doing so will receive a ticket.

I don't live on it so didn't get a call, myself, but Tonnelle, from the circle to JFK, is also a mess and had nothing moved, changed, or plowed. Near JFK (by the Ramada Inn), it's so narrow that it's barely 1 1/2 lanes - passing cars are near misses, every time.

This administration is a JOKE!!!

I guess Healy and his band of corrupt pals think Spring is only 83 days away, so the snow will melt shortly!

Grand St. and CC Drive are down to the blacktop - great so all the people who DON'T live here and DON'T pay taxes have a clear path to the waterfront. I saw them plow those streets 50 million times, yet Warren, York, Sussex, Morris, etc. are bad.

Great job Jerrimiah - have ANOTHER beer.

I thought the SAME exact thing on my walk to work today... nothing was removed on Jersey, Montgomery OR Grove street.

Maybe come April 14th I will just SAY I'll pay my taxes...

Great point. Bayonne has opened up school parking lots for people to park in to get cars off the streets.

From the JC Independent article Jersey city begins curb to curb snow removal on major thoroughfares:

"City spokesperson Jennifer Morrill tells us the Jersey City Incinerator Authority will be trying to clear these emergency routes overnight this evening, beginning at 7 pm. While in past storms the city has opened up municipal lots for folks to move their vehicles to, Morrill says this year that is impossible because many of the lots are not cleared, since crews have been focusing on clearing and plowing streets around the city."

It seems JC hasn't evolved as much as Bayonne. Maybe the DPW workers should have been cleaning the streets and lots first with the JCIA rather than getting to the parks first.

I found a way to get my cars out. I will remember not to ask for advice on this forum again.

Welcome to Message Board 101. Threads tend to morph and evolve, as people converse - particularly when the thread is about a flashpoint issue, like snow removal (or lack thereof) here in Jersey City.

Message Board 102 - I think people viewed your initial post as an OBP (acronym, "obvious brag post"), since it isn't exactly common to have a 100 foot driveway around here... OBP's tend to either elicit sarcastic (or no) responses, generally speaking. No offense.

Sorry, I don't know any contractors.

Still waiting for my street to get plowed!
I called the mayors action line 2 times today & 3 times yesterday.
I think all the city workers had a mandatory furlough day!!!
Nothing seems to be geting cleaned.
If they woulda salted & kept on top of this storm as it was hapening, these roads wouldnt be this bad.
Way to go Healy!!!

I know jcindependent already posted about this, but here is the official press release with all its typos.

Blizzard 2010 Snow Routes

I would just like to know where the mayor and the OEM would like us to move our cars to.

It's also interesting to note that the document title is Blizzard 2010 Snow Routes. Is the city randomly designating snow routes now on a storm by storm basis?

I personally think Cory is doing as best as he can do. Is he perfect? No, but he is a far cry better then anything Healy is doing.

My partner works in Newark and he couldn't believe how many of the side streets were cleared compared to ours here in JC.

Just walk around the Heights...it's a sore sight for the eyes.

For those of you who think Cory Booker is doing a great job, you obviously have not been to Newark. My business is in the Ironbound and this morning all of the side streets had still not had a plow go through. Of course that did not stop people from trying to get to work, which meant most of the side streets had cars stuck in the snow making them even more impassable. I left for a day-long appointment in Manhattan. When I came back to the Ironbound an hour ago, the side streets had still not been plowed. Way to go Cory!

FYI, the city will begin towing vehicles off 'emergency routes' tonight around 7 pm.

Check out the list of affected streets here. http://www.jerseycityindependent.com/ ... al-on-major-thoroughfares

just drove back to the heights from union city (horrible idea to go up that way in the first place. i think there's a fire or something in the blvd east area).

anyway i was shocked to see the conditions of some of the side roads in the heights. completely unshoveled and barely passable. my street on the western slope was in pristine condition compared to some other streets, most likely because it connects with 1-9.

This was standard practice in my hometown (central PA). Instead of the street sweeper they had a three vehicle snow removal brigade. Its only needed a few times a year and seems to be a worthwhile investment considering the hassel (and in some cases - danger!) people are dealing with. This morning, York Street between Monmouth to Jersey still looked like it hadn't been touched by a plow!

Interesting priorities. They were using a front loader and truck to clear the SIDEWALKS of McNair today!
