I went 2 years ago and had a blast, filled up on all kinds of apple pies, apple breads, turnovers, I'd go again if i had the time.

I just found out about this event this year, wish I knew sooner... its called the Pocono Pumpkin Fest its about 2 hours from us in PA but a nice ride, free admission, free parking and all their pumpkins from 5-50lbs are only 3 bucks each! It runs from october 1-31

They also have a huge fair ground with rides and fall events, hayrides kiddie haunted houses, corn mazes its awesome, I dont have the link but if you google it, it will come right up.

Some of these places charge as much or MORE than the supermarket! That never made sense to me, but we still go every year. Been eating an apple a day for 2 weeks...

Neverleft - Yeah, when we went they never let you walk either. I think now that they "charge" for the hay ride that you have the option of taking a wheelbarrow down instead. It was fun back in the day with the kids taking the hay ride, they loved it and we brought our pumpkins back on the truck too. Last time I was there was three years ago - when they started charging for everything. But my kids are grown now and dont' go back anymore. It was however a "fond memorable place". Guess I will go back when I have grandchildren (if I am not too old by then !) LOL

wow... I didn't go in the last few years...didn't know they now charged for the hay ride down to the fields!!!!

Hmmm just saw this in the link....

"Pick your own pumpkins any day of the week. On weekdays, you are welcome to grab a wheelbarrow and walk to our fields to pick your own Pumpkins, Gourds and Indian Corn. On weekends and Columbus Day, you can take a Hayride to the Pumpkin Patch from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. "

They never let you walk down to the fields before...

Went to Donaldson's in Hackettstown for years and it was great, they have a huge corn maze as well. Although the last couple of years it got really expensive. The hay ride down to the field was always free, now you have to pay for it? Kind of ridiculous since it takes about 60 seconds. Their prices have gone up pretty high in the last three years - next they'll charge for parking in the lot !

You also pay for the maze, ($5.00 two years ago per person) that too use to be free.

Forget about apples its pumpkin picking time?.

This is the best place by far?(and yes it is kind of far away)..

http://www.donaldsonfarms.net/pick-your-own-pumpkins

You take a little hay ride to the valley where the pumpkin?s are. Beautiful setting.

Funny? I don?t know if they still do this?in early October they placed ad?s in the JJ. Picture of a little ?city? kid yelling to his mom. ?Yo I want to pick me some pumpkins!. The ad went something like that.. kind of creepy.

They also have a good sized farm stand right on route 523/517 before you reach the place to pick your own apples. If you are in the area you could have lunch at the Oldwick General Store. Drive slowly through Oldwick as 25MPH speed limit means 25.

That is an awesome part of NJ. And it's also why I love NJ - within an hour's drive you can go from the most dense, truly urban city to true countryside.

Love those Jersey farm stands!

I went to Secor Farms in Mahwah this summer to go raspberry picking. A little tricky to find, but it was great. Looks like they do pumpkins in the fall. Check out this site:

Melick's is great.

If you don't feel like driving, Metro-North does fun little farm tour trips this time of year. They're about $30 for the day including rail fare and they take you around to a bunch of different stops. The one I did last year took us apple picking, to a dairy farm (we got to pet goats!), to a vineyard and to a cute little town.

Eastmont Orchards in Colts Neck, NJ. From now until the end of October there are apples/peaches/pumpkins. Fun place. You can do a google search on it.

I'm thinking about taking my young boys to apple picking, or berry picking, or just have some fun on a farm.

Can someone recommend good farms to visit?

thanks in advance.
