Just want to pass on what may be obvious. I was told that one of the reasons Atomic Wings closed was because they refused to pay people off in the Jersey City Buildings Department. They apparently spent too much money getting the place ready and trying to fulfill every Jersey City Buildings request that there wasn't much left to run the place. Who are the crooks in the Buildings Department? Are they buddies with Healy and the Council? Do they funnel money to Healy and the Council?

I've never been to a Bon Chon. How do they compare to Koreatown places such as Kyo Chon or Mad for Chicken?
I hope they're fairly quick too. Kyo Chon processes to-go orders in a few minutes, while I prepare myself for a very long wait to dine in at Mad for Chicken. Is Bon Chon more of a take-out or dine-in type of a place?

bon chon coming is great news. my only concern is the fact that Kore-FC tends to take a looooooong time to prepare. I feel part of what did Atomic Wings in were the wait times--20 minutes for chicken tenders. Korean FC can take twice that long. Downtown JC is largely a take-out food culture and people of course want things relatively quickly. I hope Bon Chon's management has a way of accommodating that without sacrificing quality... or else i fear they could go the way of atomic wings.

If you have yet to try KFC (Korean Fried Chicken!) you are in for a HUGE surprise. Bon Chon is a Korean chain with several stores in the US. I have been a huge fan since I stumbled into the first one some two years ago. I first learned about KFC through a blog post in Gothamist and was instantly intrigued. On a whim, rode my bike out to the ends of Queens and visited Kyochon, which is a prime example of excellent KFC. I then went on to try other such places: UFC (Unidentified Flying Chickens) in Jackson Heights, then Bon Bon Chicken and finally Bon Chon Chicken. Bon Chon compares favorably with all of them. Their wings and their drumsticks are out of this world. The chicken is fried twice (the first time to seal in the flavor and moisture, the second time to get that awesome crispiness). Most importantly, their sauces are also excellent (particularly, the soy garlic and the spicy hot!!)
I can't wait for Bon Chon to open up. A word of caution, though: in my experience, orders do take a while to fulfill, as the chicken is prepared fresh every time you order it.

Looking forward to trying Bonchon.
I've tried the wings from almost everywhere Downtown. Atomic were average at best. So far I'd say Dominos are best, and I think they're delivered downtown from Hoboken. They're decent sized, made from fresh, not frozen/recooked chicken, have the sauces right, and are not plastered with breadcrumbs. PS: Note to Downtown restaurants in JC - stop serving frozen or reheated wings. People notice and don't return.

This is not a surprise they closing. I tried it three times and the wings were at best average. I would much rather go down to lucky 7s for wing night!

Binky my evil faced friend, sometimes, it is the simple things you shouldn't worry about and that make life worth living, like good wings that are not too hot, just right, and if you pay a wee bit extra, no big deal. I enjoy them, don't care what you all write. Is it the BEST wings I ever ate, nope, but certainly not even close to the worst. Walk in, order 10 wings, walk them home, eat them with a nice german brew ha ha and I bet you say, damn, not too shabby. BTW, does anyone think JC will allow BonChon to serve beer there? I would be shocked, but they'll have to break the bank and exchange those wons into cold hard u.s. coin.

Overpriced was only one issue. The real issue is that the wings just weren't that good.[/quote] When I feel like falling off the no-fried wagon, I get the wings and fried rice at Lucky, Coles & Newark. Crisp generous sized wings and a heap of rice for around $5 (it's been creeping up). As tasty and far healthier is their BBQ chicken, also under $6 with rice & salad. Why go to an overpriced chain? I tried It's Greek to Me once, and left them alone also as a poor value.

The plan is for a BonChon. AW will move to another location in downtown JC undisclosed. Were the wings a wee bit overprice, yes. But for someone who got them once a month, not an issue. My enjoyment for life's finer pleasures overshadows a few george washingtons (both dollar and quarters). When I went to the store to pick up an order, my wings were ready in 10 minutes. I am not a big fan of delivery anyway. Get off your lazy asses and go out in the world. Is there a JC code inspector that is a hard ass, YES. This person is creating havoc for all new and existing businesses. The Truth. Aight!

The main reason it didn`t do well is most people when they want to go out and eat wings they also want to drink beer and watch games. There are already a # of bars in the area where you can do that and have decent wings.A # of atomic wing places in Manhattan are actually in bars like"Down the Hatch" in the village.Basically there is not enough traffic in the area to be just a take out place even though they had a few tables.

The wings were way overpriced. It was also either was too small or too large a location. Hooters got the wing place right. Wings beer sports and at a cheaper price. It also shows the lack of saturation in the population of downtown. Until you have a large spillover to the heights and Bergen Lafayette a lot of businesses will come and go unless they have a major corporate head.

Your right Ethan, I'll be sure to use the correct terms from now on.
For the record, I'm a lifelong jersey city resident and my family is from downtown, so I have a different view of things as I've watched this town change over the last 30 years.

I ordered from AW probably 10X. Everytime was good. Only once did the delivery take 45 minutes. I ordered delivery 3 X. The rest, I just got my ass out of my house and picked up the food. And it was always good. I stuck to the same thing, hot wings. That's it. No complaints. Sad if it is closing. Hopeful that it will be something good. Beggin.

I've avoided registering to post here for some time, content to lurk, but I have to weigh in and say the above post advocating the "pushing out" of those who "no longer belong" on Newark Ave is potentially the most impressive piece of unabashed entitlement that I've seen here yet.
Bravo! On a related note, I would hoist about 80 percent of the blame for Atomic Wings' failure on the placing of the fries in styrofoam takeout containers before they go out. Recipe for disaster.

Jersey City needs to continue to push these residents out of the area who simply no longer belong. There is nothing appealing about seeing a bum in a wheelchair fighting another bum, or the girl who looks half asian/latin with like no teeth giving you dirty looks as you walk by. These are the reasons people move out of Jersey City. Wow. "push them out"? Where exactly do they belong, then, if not in the place they've lived their whole lives? I agree that that part of Newark sketches me out sometimes, but not because my tender sense of personal entitlement is threatened. Safety is important, but you don't have a right to to ship people away just because you don't like to look at them.
