Make it a night they'll never forget.

Stand up and speak out!

Call the City Clerk's office to be placed on the agenda to speak. City Clerk - Telephone 547-5150

Call the Mayor's Action Bureau EVERDAY and demand that your taxes are not raised again. 547-4900

Bring your signs. Bring your neighbors.

Spread the word. Turn up the heat. Welcome to hell.

There are multiple additional ways we can demonstrate our dissatisfaction with the Mayor, the members of the City Council, and the current political power structure of the City. One of them is to come to the meeting and show our numbers.

Another alternative is to call the Mayor and members of the City Council every day and demand that they resign, lower taxes, provide better service, take a pay cut, etc.

If you have a moment during your day, spend a minute and call any of them to tell how negatively these proposed tax increases are affecting you and your family. They need to hear our voices and they need to start listening to our ideas.

The City Council is planning to approve new union contracts with Police and Fire at the March 10 meeting. At a time when the City is furloughing and laying off non-uniformed staff, Police and Fire are getting 3% plus raises for the next four years. And the uniformed services continue to get additonal benefits like $50,000 in tuition reimbursement.

Most Police and Fire personnel don't live in the City and don't pay taxes here. In these fiscal times a better deal with these unions should have been struck. But our craven City Council will do nothing.

As a side note, neither Bill Gaughan nor his aide (his daughter BTW) have voicemail at their numbers. The numbers just ring and ring if nobody answers. Doesn't matter though, with the exception of Fulop, none of the councilmembers seem to listen to their voicemail anyway...

I heard that Bill Gaughan stated that "e-mail is for yuppies!"
Whay can't we hear him explain for himself why he does not have either voice mail or e-mail.

Good questions to ask Gaughan at the next meeting. It could be interesting to hear him respond on record.

Is he afraid to leave a paper trail? If his constituents want to reach him, why must they have to take time off from their day jobs to make a trip to City hall? I have an idea, why don't we all write to him and request a response, in writing!

If his aide is his daughter, why is she more qualified than other job candidates of Jersey City? It's disgusting.

Here is what I don't understand. I was watching the Caucus meeting and when Fulop introduces the slogan on the city owned vehicles Richardson got all defensive and said "thats fine" "i have no problem with that" "i don't care". She was the loudest about it. Fulop originally proposed that the cars have 6 in worth of writing. Richardson said "why cant the cars look like all the other city cars?" (basically with an emblem and smaller writing, Fulop didn't really have a problem with that).

So, Counsilwoman Richardson, why can't the cars look like all the other city cars? Because you voted against it.

I think Wednesday is going to be a very interesting evening especially in light of Viola's introduction of 90K/yr full time council positions.

But will they work the same hours. I don't recall reading about this. I am glad there are other sources of medium to find out when I will be swindled. So thank you jclist for being an informative medium with the message.

Let's all focus on showing up for the Wed night meeting. The 90K full time council position smokescreen has already been started. Let's not get distracted. IMHO we should continue to let them know that increasing our taxes is unacceptable. They need to cut costs in an ethical and intelligent manner. Period. Now. It seems to me that they are waiting for us to lose our enthusiasm. If more folks, like myself, that were previously apathetic or lazy (guilty as charged) show up and are persistent.....They will eventually get the message. Wed every living breathing upset body will make a difference.

Will the council answer questions if asked? Or is it not supposed to be interactive? Can we ask a specific councilmember a question?

The 90K full time salary proposal is a distraction to throw us off from the real issue.

The meetings in the next week with the different departments is a dog and pony show. They want to say look at us, we listened. They should have had the department meetings months ago, that's if they were serious.

We need action.

Stay focused.

Was watching News 12 New Jersey, they announced Wednesday's City Council meeting and Jersey City residents fighting against the tax increase.

Looks like they will be there covering the meeting.

i can't make it there tonight but if SOMEONE from the heights goes, can you please put gaughan on the spot. he does NOT respond to any emails, and no voicemail is ridiculous. I met him a few years ago at a function and he asked if he could count on my vote. he was very personable and told me all about living in the city, ect. I came away w/ a good feeling, not anymore. i voted against him in the last election and will continue to do so. the Heights needs someone better to run against him. b/c i have a feeling the machine has his replacement already waiting in the wings...

Gaughan believes the seat belongs and is owned by him and to be passed down to his daughter.

Gaughan has been voted in for 20 straight years. I don't blame him for thinking he owns the seat. It is up to the people to kick him out of office.

Council passed the ordinances requiring 20% copayment on insurance for JCIA and JCMUA board members, and they think the people should be grateful that we still get to pick up the tab for 80%. Councilwoman Richardson had no idea what she was voting for or against.

Turnout wasn't great but I still liked it, because I felt the people actually talked and not yelled. I thought that would have meant something to them, but it didn't.

I wanted to get up and punch "corporate council" in the face for trying to trick Richardson. I'm surprised she caved in. Too bad Fulop wasn't there then. I wanted to correct everyone who was against Richardson, but public speaking was over.

The guy clearly stated that there was currently no ordinance in place stating that they should get benefits. Therefore Sottolano was not only wrong, he lied. If there was no ordinance in place, voting this down means that there remains no ordinance in place. That guy from the corp council has got to be a lawyer cause he worked his way the hell out of that one.

Let's lose the pessimism the next round and do our part.
The tax payers need to continue to show up at these council meetings and speak up. If we don't show up--we've lost. If you can't make the meetings, call the council members, call the mayor. Don't let this drop.

No sh!t. The taxpayers are going to continue to lose until there is an election. Pure and simple. Doesn't take a savant on a message board to figure that out. Some version of the originally proposed tax increase is going to happen. And it's probably going to happen again in 2011.

The thing is, there are a lot of people who are going to make sure that no one forgets who shat on them (Brennan, Gaughan, Vega - well, he'll be in jail, but still, Flood, Sottolano.) Go back and tell your Healy flunky that little victories right now are coming at a great expense in the future.

So you, jc73, and your cronies should get your resumes together. Because soon you will be looking for a job. Or going to jail. Not sure how deep you are in it, but I wouldn't feel too comfortable if I were you.

Precisely correct. We are watching. We will remember. I've never been active in a JC election but now I will be very involved in the next one and I'm not the only one.

Sorry to tell you T-Bird but I'm not part of the machine. I used to go to the city council meetings and I was against all of the political bull. I grew tired of it and decided to move out of the city. I've said it in the past the only way to change things is to change things. Everyone complained about the current government yet they still voted them back in, not me. So you get what you asked for, that's why I moved. I was born and raised in Jersey City lived there for over thirty-five years and remember what it was like and see what it has become.

I don't like where this is going, sure I'll admit alot of areas have improved but most areas of the city have gotten worse. If the only ones speaking out are in the downtown area then it will do nothing. That only accounts for about 1/5 of the population. What you need to do is organize more neighborhoods and have large groups from all over the city to show up and speak thier minds. I agree a change is needed. Maybe someone should think about contacted the neighborhood assoc. leaders from around the city. Imagine if each leader brought 15 people with them to a city council meeting, instead of a hundred or a hundred and fifty people showing up you would have over a thousand. They would have to listen to you then. Have each neighborhood block assoc. leader have fifteen or twenty people from thier area call thier council people each day to complain about things in the neighborhood. Right now the way I see it the only ones putting an effort in is the downtown area, thats like building a house with a tack hammer, lets break out the power tools.

Many a posts state to vote out the incumbent but the real solution is to put in a candidate who is not from either major machine party...someone like Fulop. Vote in somebody from out in left field a person we as a majority will have influence in representing us, who thinks like us, and who will speak up for us...like Fulop. Lets retire the current administration...Except for Steve of course.

There's approx 2 council meetings per month. Surely we can find the time to attend even if we don't speak at every one. Problem is if we forget about it, we lose interest and give into other less important things like watching stupid TV programs and eating too much food. Let us make positive choices and changes in our lives AND our city.

I was at the meeting on Wednesday. Was surprised that the turnout wasn't larger. I even made a new sign for the occasion.

It was a long meeting. I left after the public speaking section around 10:45ish.

It just amazes me these guys. I love in the video you see the guy sleeping. I was told this is our deputy mayor. Simply amazing. If I were caught sleeping on the job I'd be severely reprimanded.

Please all, stay mad at this.... this incompetency cannot be ignored.
