I think you got a very good deal at $1900 for 800 square feet ans 6th floor (if the square footage is honest.) As the weather warms a bit you will see increased foot traffic on the Waterfront Walkway til midnight and beyond and a stroll to Shoprite or Newport will be PERFECTLY safe. It is dull if one's idea is of excitement is nonstop truck traffic, cars stereos blasting, and sirens blaring all night. Some of us like quet for sleeping and being in the middle of the Hudson is serenity with killer views that almost nobody on Earth has...if that isn;t LOCATION I don't know what is. If you want excitement it is an 8 minute walk to the PATH train at Ex. Pl. and a few minutes longer to Manhattan. Say what one will about the Walkway but it is the safest part of town...and that include Paulus Hook, Newark Avenue, Journal Square and the Heights. Is the 800 square feet a junior 2?

There are definitely people walking around after 8pm in the wintertime. I often come home from work after that and I'm never the only person walking from Exchange Place along the waterfront toward the Pier. I've come from Newport/Pavonia really late at night and, again, there are always some people around. That said, I mostly agree with your point---it's a quiet part of town, and especially so at night. I'm not sure I'd wander around by myself, especially around behind the Powerplant or toward ShopRight (although, to be fair, I probably wouldn't wander around by myself in those areas even during the day). But, I've always felt pretty comfortable walking to/from the PATH stations.

I don't know if I would say that that area is safe because it is just too desolate., after 8:00 (maybe 10:00 during the summer) it is a ghost town-that whole area of downtown is; if some thing happens there will likely be no other witnesses.
Personally it didn't bother me when I left work at 2:00 or 3:00 am and walked to the taxi stand at Grove St. but I don't know your situation. I know I would not be comfortable with my wife walking around alone over there. But it is quiet and the views are incredible. If you are comfortable with solitude or don't really go for walks alone at night do it- it is way too easy a commute from there.

I think we got a good deal - 1,900, high floor, 800sqft (if you call the 6th floor high), view of downtown nyc.
Honestly it was the quietest place we looked at by far, and I actually like that there's nothing to do around there. I'd much rather jump on the path train and be in NYC in a few minutes. Plus, the JSQ/33rd PATH train ride is BRUTAL. I'd rather take the WTC line and walk the 2 miles to work :)

I never actually went inside, so maybe the interiors are nicer or more spacious or something, but I think you can probably find something a little bit cheaper along the waterfront. I think 1 bedrooms in places like the A Condos and Portofino are going for between $1900 and $2100 or so, including parking (subtract maybe $150 if you don't need a parking spot).

The location is incredible and the views must be magnificent, the surroundings are whisper quiet.
And hey, it's a rental. If you hate it you can move out in 12 months. What are you paying for what size apartment?

We looked at a few apartments there last year and did not like them compared to others in the area for the same money. The views are nice and some units had balconies but the layouts of the 1 bedrooms we saw were small and awkward.

Hey guys,
I'm are about to put a deposit down on a rental at the pier. I've seen some mixed reviews though, and was wondering if anyone here could provide some info on the building. I've heard the walls are quite thin, maintenance is bad, etc...I'm starting to second guess my decision to move here. Thanks!
