Casa Victoria has a box in front of the store. You can drop items off in the box. I think they said that the box will be there till December.

I'm not in on Fridays, so I'm not sure if that could work, however, I'm actually there on Thursday from 10 in the morning until midnight, so you can come by whenever you'd like.

Oh and I actually work the same hours Wednesday, too, so if you'd like to come by tomorrow that works.

Thanks! I'll try to stop by Thursday. If not, can I pick them up on Friday?

Quick update:

Due to shipping restrictions on used shoes/clothing to the Philippines, international donors are encouraged to give money, meds, food.

Here's the list of priority relief goods from the Philippine National Red Cross:

Food items: Rice, noodles, canned goods (there are those that have a lever to open etc) sugar, iodized salt, cooking oil, monggo beans, and bottled water

Medicines: Paracetamol, antibiotics, aspirin, analgesic, oral rehydration salts, multivitamins and medications to treat diarrheal diseases

Non-food items: Bath soaps, face towels, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, plastic mats, blankets, mosquito nets, jerry cans, water containers, water purification tablets, plastic sheetings, and laundry soap

Used goods WILL eventually get through, but will be delayed due to inspections (can't risk importation of foreign diseases through used goods, etc) and payment of customs duty.

If you must, please donate used goods anyway, but separate them from meds, food and NEW shoes & clothing. this way some of the boxes will go through more quickly.

We are also looking for folks to "adopt a box" who will essentially pay for the cost of shipping a box to the Philippines at a reduced rate. Will post more info as soon as possible.

Hey if you need boxes, swing by the Lamp Post Thursday, that's the night we normally put out all the empty beer cases, and since it's my job to get rid of them, I am willing to take it upon myself to hand them over to you.

Just look for the beardo either in the kitchen or sitting at the bar looking half-awake and wearing an apron.

Hi everyone,

In case you haven't already heard (or seen the countless messages on FB, Twitter, etc), typhoon Ondoy (internationally known as Ketsana) dumped six months' worth of rain in Metro Manila, Philippines in about six hours, resulting in the loss of hundreds of lives, displacement of 450,000+ families, and over P1.5billion worth of damages. My own hometown of Marikina was one of the worst-hit cities in Metro Manila, with floodwaters that rose up to the roofs of two-story homes and buildings.

Global relief efforts for Typhoon Ondoy/Ketsana in the Philippines are ongoing. http://www.ondoyrelief.org has very useful information.

I am helping some friends and local organizations collect cash and in-kind donations for shipment to Metro Manila on October 3 and 15, respectively.

Much-needed donations are as follows:
- Monetary
- Medicine (over-the-counter meds such as aspirin, Tylenol, and other fever reducers)
- Blankets
- Pasteurized Milk (no initial refrigeration needed)
- Powdered formula milk for babies
- Food in foil packs, ie tuna, etc (most flood victims will not have access to can-openers)
- Clothing (adults, children and baby sizes)
- Blankets

Drop-off points:
- Sinugba Cafe - 561 Westside Ave. Jersey City, NJ 07304
- Casa Victoria - 691 Newark Ave. Jersey City, NJ 07306-2803

If you do not have a car, you may drop off your donations to our home on Grove Street. PM me for the address. (Also, if anyone has boxes, I would appreciate them, as I have already collected quite a bit over the weekend.)
