I completely agree - and some of the questions are ridiculously biased. 'What do you think PATH should spend their money on? A. Gold plated toilets in the employee restroom or B. Windex"

This isn't how you run a survey... a survey would have at least the appearance of not being biased towards one way or the other at the outset. The fact that the survey is being advertised in a thread that isn't exactly pro-PATH is also going to heavily skew your results. If you want skewed results, fine and good... otherwise, you're doing it wrong.

There are questions about PATH Elevators, Escalators, and Turnstiles on our independent survey of PATH service.
PATHSUX Plus fill out a survey and voice your concerns.

It took them 5 months to construct 2 stairwells that look like they could have been slapped together in 5 days. If they started building an elevator, it might not be ready until 2020.

So last night while complaining about escalators, it was brought to my attention that even if you're disabled and using those escalators helps you, you still have to walk up TWICE AS MANY STAIRS just to get to the escalators. Does anyone know why didn't they install an elevator when they put in the new station at Grove Street?

Technically, its not your tax dollars. Rather, its the user fees you pay. The Port Authority operates without subsidy from state governments relying on fees collected at ports, airports, tolls, and PATH fares.

The escalators are not only for the lazy. There are plenty of older, pregnant, or just plain not-feeling-well people who don't necessarily need the assistance of an elevator but who strain up the stairs.
But I agree, the issues really are 1) why doesn't the PATH invest in accessible stations and 2) why are our tax dollars paying the wages of repairpersons who can't keep the existing system working for more than a day or two at a time?

If you walk with a cane it is a lot better than using the stairs. the grove street station is difficult for disabled people in general. I'm a cripple and ever little bit helps. The PATH is horrible about ADA access. At Pavonia they have that horrible ramp. some disabilities make it harder to walk up a ramp than stairs. I don't think any are ADA in the city aside from 33rd. There are many ways to be a gimp.

A few years ago when PATH re-opened the eastern entrance to the Grove Station they had a perfect opportunity to install an elevator. They did not. What they did in fact was to create an entrance where you now had to go up a half dozen steps to go down. Not good.

The real question is why is there no elevator at Grove St. Path station, especially in the big black spaceship entrance on the corner of Marin & CC? The lack of an elevator makes the station practically unusable for anyone in a wheelchair or with a large stroller.
The piddly escalator is really only for the lazy (myself included) who don't want to walk up a few stairs, as it is too small for most mobility devices and does nothing to help people will the real climb down to the platform. Any developer who finally builds out that lot on the corner of Marin and CC should be required to install a public elevator to the platform.

I can't imagine an escalator being very helpful to most disabled people. I have a crippled friend who can't even get onto one, but can walk upstairs. But maybe I'm overlooking something.

I would not be surprised if the escalators at the station were indoor escalators rather than outdoor or all weather variety, which would explain why they fail so easily.

How is it that the escalator repairpersons keep their jobs? These escalators never remain in full working order for more than a day or two at a time.

and calling your survey "PATHsux" in no way predetermines who'll click on it.
moron. (and of course, a survey entitled "PATHsux" is going to be taken VERY seriously by the folks at the Port Authority. double moron.)

A sampling of survey responses about PATH's numerous deficiencies...
----------------------------------- Cars are filthy! Clean them! Digital Timetable at stations of when trains rrive/depart!!!!!! clean the cars more frequently - they always smell like urine announce times for next arriving trains stay on schedule more elevators (Grove specifically) Fix the A/C on all trains so I don't walk off the train like I took a shower. RUN MORE TRAINS!!! bike capacity in trains Remove cars with little or no Air conditioning fix WTC exit and entrance on vescey st increase service in newark Increased trains on the weekends and late night. They are always packed! Notify people BEFORE they pay their fare of problems on the lines that could cause disruptions PLEASE INSTALL FANS AT THE 9TH ST STOP. PLEEEEASE Ventilation in Station. Presently harmful to ones health! TV's at station should tell you when the next trains are arriving. EXtend to Newark Airport Allow for a direct train from 33rd to JSQ on weekend days (removing the need to go to Hoboken first) Fix the frequency and capacity now! Build New Tunnel Clean the trains and stations improve the quality of voiced announcements and or put them on the over amount of tv screens in the stations Test and improve air quality. Use the TVs for something other than ads for NBC Direct JSQ-33 on Weekends!!! Coordinate with NJ Transit schedules install garbage cans in stations Increase frequency of trains at night and weeknds period. There is no excuse to run trains every 25 minutes that are overcrowded. Every 15 min TOPS... anything that increases ridership capacity somethings gotta give add in poles to new trains and handrails. there is nothing to hold onto once all seats are taken Add More Seats In Station Resume direct weekend service Hoboken-WTC Freaking Trash CANS Add a timing mechanism so we know how long we have to wait for the next train Upgrade SIGNALS so trains can run closer together fix the train speakers... can never understand what the conductor says Clean the cars. The bums sleep on the seats and piss all over them selves. The seats are wet and the cars smell provide a smoother ride Put an indicator on platforms for when the next train is arriving in Hoboken Add new PATH entrance at Newport tailor service to event like the subway does. If there is a rangers or yankees mets game getting out late, plan to have servcie so those people aren't waiting forever on the platform MOVE THE TRAINS OUT AS FAST AS THE WORLD TRADE TRAINS. JOURNAL SQUARE JUST SITS THERE WAITING AND GETTING MORE AND MORE CROWDED ------------------------------- That's 43 complaints vs 2 responses saying "path is ok". A ration of negative:positive that is 20:1. Great Job PATH!

So quick recap:
You post a poll under a completely biased URL. People call you out for completely biased URL and classify your site as a complaint site, not a legitimate poll. You say so what about the completely biased URL, what do you want us to make a pro-PATH URL? I point out that you could have registered an unbiased URL. You admit that your poll is completely biased and meant to be that way. LAWL.

Yes, we do have a bone to pick with PATH.
So far, a vast majority of respondants do as well. That's the whole point. To give them a voice. If you want, YOU can make your own survey at PATHPOLL.com, on your own time. And your results will be +/- 5 percentage points off of ours. Big deal. BTW... Do you also whine about this thread being called "PATH (pathetic attempt at transporting humans)" ?

You could get a new URL and hide the fact that you have a bone to pick... It's still an internet poll and therefore completely useless.

Great Good Above Average Average Below Average Poor Unacceptable Can't be any fairer than that. Would you like it better if we call it PathIsAllSunshineAndRainbows.com? It's a survey, regardless of the URL. www.PATHSUX.com

Unbiased?
This appears just below the survey title "PATHSUX". "Are you sick & tired of overcrowded PATH trains? Here you can fill out a survey to tell PATH Management how fed up you are. Let Your Voice Be Heard!" It's not a survey, it's a complaint forum.
