Yeah, they are good at raising out taxes: one of the many costs of corruption.

Okay--this will probably get me jumped on but aren't you guys the same ones who posted elsewhere that JC is improving and that you like living here?

I am new to JC (2 years) and I think it's pretty good. All of these folk, innocent and guilty, had to be good for something.

Also folks should also consider organizing to meet behind City Hall as it is the entrance where the Team Healy Cabal of Corruption members enter the building.

I dont know if I can make it at 9:00. How long do you think people will be there?

Someone at Hoboken411 had a great idea where they would send postcards to Cammarano's home and City Hall that would say "Resign Now". I thought that was a great idea!

unfortunately i have a funeral to attend tomorrow, but i signed the petition. i hope lots of people make it out. it would be great if we can demonstrate we're not as apathetic as things like voter turnout seem to indicate.

Augie Torres writes in The Jersey Journal:

Jersey City activisits to speak about public corruption on City Hall steps

Tuesday July 28, 2009, 2:03 PM

Prior to tomorrow's 10:00 a.m. Jersey City Municipal Council meeting, the activist organization One Jersey City, supported by interested residents from other parts of the city, will gather on the steps of City Hall. They will denounce corruption, call for clean government, and demand the resignation of Mayor Jerramiah Healy, Council President Mariano Vega, and Councilwoman Nidia Lopez.

Daniel Levin, who founded One Jersey City, said the gathering is more "ad hoc than press conference." He said people are reacting to the federal corruption scandal that saw 44 people arrested Thursday on corruption and money laundering scandals.

Vega was among those arrested on a corruption complaint of receiving $30,000 from a government informant posing as a developer seeking fast-track approvals for a building project.

Healy admitted he was the unnamed "JC Official 4" named in a complaint. "JC Official4" met with the FBI plant which meant the official had knowledge of campaign cash being paid to his war chest and that the donor expected favorite treatment for his development.

One Jersey City wants Lopez to resign because of questions about her residency and for trying to take advantage of tax program in Florida for a home she has there. Florida has billed her more than $30,000 because the program should be for permanent residents.

All three elected officials refused to resign saying they did nothing wrong. Vega did step down as the head of the City Council's tax abatement committee.

Levin said a letter seeking signatures calling for resignation of the officials is circulating on the street and online. He said, so far, there are already 50-60 signatures obtained from the Internet and 250 from the street effort.

Besides One Jersey City, among those attending will be a contingent from Ward F, organized by local businessman Bruce Alston. Most of those gathered by Alston are from the city's black community, mostly senior citizens. Levin said it is difficult to get people to attend tomorrow's council meeting because they are working in the the morning, but he expected at least 40 to 50 residents at City Hall.

At the council session, people will demand that the officials in question resign. Members of One Jersey City say they are bouyed by the news that Secaucus Mayor Dennis Elwell announced his resignation. Elwell was one of three mayors arrested on corruption complaints. The others mayors are Peter Cammarano of Hoboken and Anthony Suarez of Ridgefield.

I know that T-Bird. I thought that mentioning Beldini, a city employee and Vega, another city employee, would make that clear. Also thought that it was common knowledge that the mayor cannot suspend, nor fire someone from a elected position.

See last sentence of first paragraph in post #35 in this thread.

Vega isn't suspended from council. Healy can't suspend an elected official.

Don't worry about how long the council meeting goes - stay as long as you can and leave when you have to! Come to the rally. Come to the council meeting. Stay as long as you can.

And council meetings are usually not all day events but for tomorrow will depend on how many people sign up to speak and whether council members, who have basically been completely silent thus far, save for one, chose to remain silent.

Bump.

Call call the City Clerk's office at 201-547-5150 to get on the speaker list for the Council Meeting on Wednesday 10AM - at City Hall.

Pulled from: http://www.politickernj.com/matt-frie ... mayoral-candidates-debate April 2, 2009 - 9:46pm News In Jersey City, all five mayoral candidates debate By Matt Friedman, PolitickerNJ.com Reporter Among the most contentious topics of were tax abatements, in which developers make payments to the city for a set period of time in lieu of paying regular taxes. The four non-incumbents complained of abuse of that system, which they said left regular taxpayers bearing a greater burden. Healy said that the abatements were ?demonized,? and that, unlike regularly-taxed properties, the abated projects? money all goes to the city. If there weren?t abatements, Healy argued, the city would not have experienced the building boom of the last 20-plus years. ?Tax abatements are the most misunderstood program out there,? he said. Levin, however, countered that the city was issuing abatements on property that developers do not have to be encouraged to build on. He said he feared that the city could face an enormous tax increase like neighboring West New York and Hoboken. ?They?re negotiated behind closed doors, the public doesn?t participate, there are no established criteria, and there?s always a deal involved with a giveback or favor,? he said. ?We?ve actually given tax abatements for 30 and 40 years. My children will be older than I am.? Dan, sir, your fears were right on.

The odds of gettting a chance like this (to push these buffoons out) are highly unlikely. If Fulop and those of us frustrated by the banana republic rule can't utilize these federal indictments than I think it's safe to say nothing will ever change in JC...

That said, people please participate in the protests. Send a friend in your place. Numbers will be key to whether the main stream media stays focused on this story. You can rest assured the accused are praying a bigger story comes along fast to deflect attention away from their daily graft....

+1 Dan.

Also, is there any reason why tomorrow morning's rally couldn't be followed up in the evening? I'm sure there will be events transpiring at the council meeting that will be protest-worthy.
