Had takeout from them last week. When I got home I realized that they forgot one of my carnitas (the best.)

I called them and they took down my name and offered me 2 carnitas next time I came in. It totaly made up for the mess and I will continue to get my Carnitas from Tacqueria.

It really is quite tasty. And I have been there a bunch, NEVER had a problem with customer service. Perhaps the people who did are the kind that walk up to the counter with no idea what they want to order.

Watch out Mr. Froman. With all of our references to 80's pop culture, people are going to think that Abe Froman works for us.

here's my question: is the 80's pop culture and hard rock from that era really "hipster"? If you were pumping Of Montreal and Arcade Fire all day I could live with the label, but I honestly never saw you all as "hipster" in any way (especialy when compared to the brroklyn ilk).

Am aware of the contradiction, just a term of endearment/joke term. sick burn though, you really got me.

another question: when/where did they ever claim anything? who in the world would "claim" they were a hipster anyway?

this hipster talk is way off the mark...

in other words: no matter what your opinion on anything, somebody on this forum is going to disagree with you and make a big deal out of it and demand a boycott/apology/hipster party

Don't think "abrupt" quite sums up the sentiment of the "con" side, but otherwise, a fairly decent summary.

I'd really like this thread to end. In sum:

Some people like Taqueria. Some people find their service to be abrupt. Some people don't care, or notice, because they like the food. Some people do care, and notice, because they didn't like the food enough to not notice or not care.

again, joeauxillary:

i don't mind hipsters, like them actually. my point is owners at tacqeria are not at all the laidback, cool hipsters they seem to claim they are-- they are far from cool. rather, obsessive, hyper-controlling.

and no, most of us aren't projecting any moby hate onto taqueria-- seems like taqueria's rude service and overblown reactions to jc list postings is enough inspiration for the backlash.

( I don't buy the turnaround in their tone, like, now they're suddenly cool with negative posts about their establishment? in fact, taco truck's last post sounds like a pr attempt to stop the backlash.)

plus, how would you know what went down with publius-- even if he were a regular, why shouldn't he post about an experience with the bathroom and with what, he, as a paying customer, felt about the rude surly behavior at the establishment?

given all the numerous postings of rude and bizarre behavior on the owners' part, both on jc list and several other sites. . .there's a lot of smoke there. hey, for all we know, you're posting for them-- actually would be in line with their webnerdiness/obsessiveness to have friends monitor and post on their behalf.

Does everyone's disdain center around Moby? That seems to be the common bond here. Maybe everyone's simply projecting this hate onto Taqueria Moby because the real Moby's music is so shitty. Except that "Don't nobody know my troubles but God" song. That was a cool sample. Everything else about Moby sucks. Moby looks like Uncle Fester with an eating disorder or a case of full blown AIDS. Maybe Taqueria Moby IS Moby. When was the last time he did anything worthwhile? Maybe he got a new job. I've yet to see Taqueria Moby. Is the resemblance that striking?

Seriously though, I still think you're all blowing this out of proportion or just enjoy shitty Mexican food covered in taco cheese. Like the obscene amount of people that cram into it each weekend, I effing love Taqueria.

That goes for both the TacoTruck dude and Abe.

If you're as above it all as you try to project, why the need to respond? Or the need to eject paying customers?

If you care enough to sign on and respond to tell everybody how much you don't care about what they think, you're probably not telling the truth.

i think this point was lost in the shuffle, but it's worth bumping up

We have to say, such passion is truly flattering. We appreciate the critics and even the bloggers. They could be blogging about a million other things and yet they choose us. Thank you and Go Dodgers.

Wow this place certainly has sparked some passion! The food was good, but I have to side with the people who dislike the service in the establishment. My wife was slow to order and I thought Moby was going to have a meltdown. I just cant bring myself to spend money again at a place that treated its customers with such disdain.

wait. was that guy posting about hipster things (death cab)? It seemed like a mish-mash of not just so-called "hipster" stuff

i suggested quiet riot because it seems the taco place likes 80s rock. And culture. And so-cal. And hair bands

LOL I live right across the street from the place and I am not going anywhere. Just making an observation that birds of a feather... Also, isn't "affluent" and "hipster" used together a little cliche? All the true hipsters I know are far from affluent.

So much for broadening ones cultural horizons.

taqueria's reponse is rather, shall we say, a bit obsessive, thin-skinned, and so not cool. . . so to pretend they are somehow bemused laidback hipsters who are above is all isn't really on the mark. more like insecure webnerds hyper about any less than positive postings.
and publius's story seems one of many offered up on the web about this establishment.
as for whether the hand-washing incident occurred recently or year ago, it's still sounds gross that workers and customers wouldn't have access to a bathroom to wash up. just my humble opinion. . .

I'd say the fact that the owner specifically remembered the incident might mean it was a bit more obtrusive than the poster here made it seem. Maybe the owner was personally offended that a regular of his would go on a forum and publicly bitch about his restaurant because he was inconvenienced one time.

I think you all just hate affluent hipsters and are targeting this animosity towards the fine folks at Taqueria because of their manner and style of dress. For shame. Also, you should probably stay out of the downtown area. It's only going to get worse for you.

Also, hipsters don't listen to Quiet Riot unless they're doing so to be ironic-- they wouldn't actually enjoy such a thing. They just wear the t-shirts. Again, the irony of it all.

I will give Taqueria one more shot tomorrow night and here is how I will do it:

1. Put some Death Cab on my iPod

2. Wear a ratty t-shirt with some catchy slogan or phrase from the 80's.

3. Buy a pair of dark rimmed glasses.

4. Talk about how ironic everything is in that creepy hipster kinda way.

5. Snicker at the house "rules" about burrito size, no sour cream and lack of guac, and then make fun of anyone who dares criticize said "rules".

6. Sport some skinny jeans with a wallet chain.

7. Grow a scraggly beard.

8. Demand orange cheese.

9. Wash my hands before I eat the food, then wash them again after I finish.

Oh don't worry, I don't. Went all of twice, got the same treatment both times. Haven't been back in easily 3 years if not more.

If I'm actually paying somebody for food, they are not, in fact, doing me a favor by taking my order and giving that food to me.

Hey, This is funny to me, too.

The part that I don't understand is why you continue to go there. If you don't like Taqueria you can walk to Bubbies or to the place on lower Newark (forgotten the name).

Problem solved!
