this place is great, i go there very often now to grab quick lunch.

to the owner, 1 suggestion have more fish in the buffet. The salmon is nice, but the cod was great! however it doesnt seem to show up in the buffet anymore.

ps: green cow was crap

I agree that they may have some wrinkles to iron out, but they are a great addition to the neighborhood. They have tons of fresh produce and bakery items, including quality bread.

And sorry, as a resident, I do not feel sorry for the Green Cow-they are NEVER open. They clearly cater to the local office workers, not the residents.

While I do agree that we needed a local store that sells produce and is open late and on the weekends... I am a bit disappointed. I was SO excited for them to open and I keep giving them another chance, but I still think it is pretty bad. It LOOKS great- lots of options and variet, but that is it.

They are trying to do too much and not doing any of it well. The salad bar looks great, but the food itself is dry, cold and kind of gross. If you only want a salad, they don't offer enough salad items to make it interesting. The sushi is pretty bad and the seaweed salad is dry. And the prices are ridiculous! Way more expensive than a comparable salad bar in Manhattan. For example, their Yogi tea is $4 and it is $1.999 at the pharmacy.
I think there is a lot of potential, but I also feel bad about the business they are stealing from the pharmacy and green cow. Did they really need to sell the SAME groceries and items as the pharmacy? I mean even their frozen section is identical to what the pharmacy sells.
I hope they will continue to improve and figure out what they do best...and maybe even adjust the prices. People will go while it is new, but will go back to Cosi/Green Cow, etc once it gets old. We'll see....

Tomatoes, onions, lemons. In short, PRODUCE! This store is something Paulus Hook desperately needed. Before, the closest place to get produce was Grove Street, or Shop Rite. Or even Manhattan--I've made it to Whole Foods and back in Tribeca in less than an hour. They were beginning to stock the freezers today. The produce is fresh. The only thing missing is fresh meat and fish, but no complaints here for sure. My hope is that they maintain their hours (currently until 10 mon-sat, 9 on sunday).

Finally! It will be nice not to have to trek to Garden of Eden in Hoboken for specialized food, condiments, etc....

Pretty impressive. They still have to get the freezers going and get the deli area up and running, but the initial impression is good.

And the hours on the door say they will be open until 10 on Fri and Sat and 8 pm on Sunday. That's great. Green Cow, we hardly knew you. And a pox on all downtown stores that close on weekends.

I just stopped in on my way home and it looks like it has a lot of potential for Paulus Hook residents. A few requests for the owners:

Please establish a relationship with a good bakery and offer fresh bread in your grocery section. It is sad that one can't stop on your way home from work and pick up a nice loaf of french bread. I always have to remember to pick it up in the city.

In addition to catering to the 9-5ers in the area, please keep the residents of Paulus Hook in mind. I understand that you are running a business and need to be profitable, but too many establishments in the area neglect the permanent residents by closing early and not opening on weekends. If you cater to us, I promise to frequent your establishment.

I went and got a salad from there for lunch today. It's like a mini grocery store.

As someone who lives just a couple blocks away, I can say I'm pretty excited about it. Although I wouldn't do my grocery shopping there, it will be a great resource for when I've run out of something or forgot to pick it up when I've gone to A&P.

And I don't have to drive!
