I think some people need to lighten up. Our standards of transportation is so much higher because we live next to the city with one of the best mass transit systems. Be lucky we even have a PATH train. Be lucky we aren't as unfortunate as Staten Island.

I agree with auliux. I've been taking the PATH for about three or four years. I've only had a handful of major delays. The weekend schedule sucks, but I really don't get what everyone's complaining about. If there's one thing jclist has taught me it's that there there are a lot of entitled people who need something to complain about.

I don't know about everyone else, but I really like my commute. The PATH has only been very late 2 or 3 times in my two years of living and commuting on the JSQ - 33rd line. I love that I can go home really late some nights and not have to worry about my line being shut down. Sure I could do with more PATH trains on the weekends or a smoother ride on the trains (hope those new trains take care of that...), but I'm quite happy and thankful for the commute that I have. I guess I'm in the minority on this opinion though?

Tell PATH that you are fed up with unacceptable service.

And then you have Ernie Wizenblast, Traffic Reporter Extrordinaire, from WINS telling you how PATH is working to keep you safe, secure & on time. What doo-doo!!

Perhaps if they play their announcement twice as often all will be well.
"Welcome to the PATH system...open food containers, blah blah...bags are discouraged, blah blah, for emergency call 201-430-7908 extension 26945074480306168...report anyone carrying a suspicious package, blah, blah...Enjoy your ride. This message will repeat in 7 seconds." What more can anyone ask. Oh, to show how much they are concerned with overcrowding they are shutting down the WTC service on weekends this Summer. Yes, PATH Thursdays are a waste of time...always have been.

PATH Thursdays=Pure Absurdity
A half dozen PATH employees, paid to hand out useless pamphlets. Meanwhile, not a single person can squeeze onto their rush hour trains. Every train bound for WTC arrives at Grove St. from NWK/JSQ ALREADY FULL beyond capacity. In many cases train after train goes buy packed like sardines, and no one at Grove can get on. Yet they spend money on pamphlets, new service announcement recordings, and platform TV's. None of which alleviates overcrowding. PATH management is CLUELESS and INCOMPETENT.

My question is for 1 week I had the new trains in the morning and return home from work. Where did the go? I have not seen one for a few weeks now. I guess the new trains got tuckered out and took a vacation

if you don't really know where you are going and the train is on the same track if it is going east or west you wouldn't know you were on the wrong train if it said journal square.
I have never been at 9th or Christopher at night but if they are all running on one track.. most likely it is there too.

Confusing at 23rd & 14th Streets as well as Exchange Pl. because these tracks require walking to a seperate station or the other side of the station not just a simple 180 degree turn and walk across the platform.

or you can simply look up to the overhead wall, which clearly states "uptown - 33rd" or "downtown - New Jersey"
but yeah, would be nice if the trains were correctly labeled.

Don't be so quick to throw in your chips. When the trains travel on the usual tracks such as Christopher St., when facing the Jersey bound track (2) the train travels towards the left. So if it was on track 1 going back to Jersey then the train would travel towards the right with track 2 behind you. Nyc travels eastward, Jersey travels westward.

I rode the new trains twice. They are quieter and smoother.
There are about 30 seats. For those with fat asses and/or thick winter coats, they only fit 15. The trains do not look comfortable to me. Maybe it's the blue color, or the lack of standing room near the doors.

Saw one of the shiny new trains yesterday afternoon. Didn't ride it since it was going the opposite direction, but does anyone know if they seat more people? Besides being new, what are the improvements made on these new cars?

At what station did you board ? Because (rule of thumb) the Nyc bound trains usually ride on Track 1 and the Jersey bound trains ride on Track 2.

I took a nice detour to WTC the same way. got on the 33rd St train at Grove, headphones on, nose in a book, didn't hear or see "next stop Exchange Place."
good times.

So this is mostly a rant, nothing more really, but maybe the only place to say this since the Port Authority just doesn't care.
Anyway, why the hell can't the trains display the right destinations? I got to ride a car to 33rd Street and back last night because the first car said Journal square on it even though it was head to 33rd. I know keeping those old and busted cars in good repair is a problem, but don't label the train incorrectly. Screw you Port Authority.

the simple thing to do would just ALWAYS have on these screens how far off the next train is.
Just have it always displayed. right there with the time. Easy.

I rode a new car from Grove to 33rd on Monday morning. I have to say that the ride was less bumpy and also quieter. The cars are nice and bright and are not that ugly beige and orange color anymore.
Overall, I'd say it is a better experience to start your day.

I've been coming home very late at night from work lately, and have seen them testing the new screens. Looking forward to having something updated more frequently than "Pathvision," which always seemed like a massive waste of TVs. Alas, no more "Getting TRAIN BRAIN? How about a little TUNNEL VISION?"

News worthy.
http://www.mediaweek.com/mw/content_d ... 2cd029dc207055a6a3b9d1dee NBC in Transit Launches in New Jersey Market April 6, 2009 -By Katy Bachman NBC Everywhere (NBC's place-based, out-of-home division), JCDecaux North America and The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey launched their long-awaited digital network on the New Jersey PATH system. Called NBC in Transit, the ad-supported network of 3,000 digital screens in the trains and at the PATH stations, airs local and national content from NBC and customer information from PATH reaching 6.3 million monthly riders. NBC in Transit is the latest addition to NBC Everywhere's portfolio of digital out-of-home platforms, including its network in New York City taxicabs, NBC@Times Square and several other networks. Effective Monday (April 6), NBC in Transit will go live in Hoboken, Journal Square and 33rd Street PATH stations, rolling out to the other 10 PATH stations and inside new trains throughout the year. Sales for the network will be handled exclusively by NBC Everywhere, but all three partners will share in the advertising revenue. Inaugural advertisers on the network include Hilton Hotels, Jet Blue and State Farm. "NBC in Transit is an innovative way to reach our travelers and guests in new digital media, and enables us as advertisers to target the tri-state area's travel-oriented and upscale commuting audience," said Dave Horton, global head, Hilton Hotels & Resorts. The network also serves as a promotion for NBC content, which will air local news and weather from its New York flagship WNBC; local lifestyle clips from LX.TV; headlines from MSNBC and CNBC; and entertainment clips from NBCU programs.

I too like the sides of the doors they are great for keeping large contraptions out of the way of others standing. Also there is no pole to grasp in the middle of the car. The seats have this uncomfortable lumbar support and you can't squirm in them freely. So now for those that like to sit you cacn stand and ev eryone can fly in and out more easily. Whats next importing Japanese train pushers. Maybe the cars should have no doors like the cable/trolley cars of San Fransisco.

OK, I saw a new Path train today for the first time. I have to say, I was underwhelmed. The newer NYC subway trains are MUCH nicer. The new Path trains look low budget and cheap. Plus, there is no place to stand on the sides of the doors (my favorite places to stand). Damn. I don't really see any improvements. What is the advantage?

Yeah, but they will not be in full rotation until 2011. I've just stopped myself from getting excited about it, so if they do come earlier, it'll be a pleasant surprise, LOL.
Should be the Port Authority slogan - "Expect nothing, and you might be pleased!"
