Hello Every body!!! I am a former resident of our wonderful Jersey City, everybody loves to bash and bitch about on these boards.
Being a former resident living on the West Coast, I keep in touch with what goes on in J.C. through my mother and brother that still live in the JSQ area, talking with them on a weekly basis. I also read that venerable {sic} rag, Jersey Journal a sorry excuse for a paper , but I digress. I was tremendously saddened to read in yesterdays edition that my good friend Officer John Gikas was diagnosed with Non - Hodgkins Lymphoma and is undergoing chemo therapy.
We went to the same church, Evangelismos Greek Orthodox Church on Summit and Montgomery, where we were altar boys and went to Greek School. I know his whole family. They are some dynamite people, hard working, honest, and loyal. I remember when i was a kid his Aunt Angeliki used to sell Hot Dogs from a pushcart on McGinley Square back in the day. ALL YEAR ROUND!@!!!
Even in the Winter when it was snowing out She or her Husband George would be out there. She hardly spoke a word of English, besides knowing the prices and the flavors of sodas. What impressed me the most about her , thinking back to that time, was the fact that she always said Please and Thank you to the customers.
The article said that the Jersey City Policeman\'s Benevolent Association is having a fundraiser for him at Hudson Catholic on the 8th of November tickets are $25.00 at the door and they open at 7:30. So please everybody that can make it please go!!!! I know that times are tough but this is tougher. John, I love you man and I miss you and I will pray for you and your family.
