Iris Records on Brunswick Street. It actually sells records. Er, albums. Also, the WFMU record fair... technically held in manhattan.

If you're looking for CDs... ebay.

-A day care center of comparable quality to the River School with competitive pricing (River's tuition is nuts).

-A gentrified pediatrician. Most of the doctors in JC seem to have gotten their degrees from the Philippines.

-An independent record store.

But I didn't know anyone really ate at Pizzaland --- but even after the Sopranos' demise -- you can still get a scale model of the place.

i am not into this sort of thinking at all. i mean yeah i am bummed that uncle joe's has never been re-established. but the grove st. area has a ton of local business that need support and if you don't show it, it will never get "cool". yeah i have yet to find a great pizzaria that i'd rather have then joe's (in kearny)or pizzaland (in north arlington) but whitestars pizzas i have had are not too bad, and everyone loves tapa's go eat at the bar at OX they serve half portions and have a bar menu and jersey city doesn't seem to recognize how lucky they are to have have a resturant like that in downtown. it seems like everyone needs a place that everyone else is at and thats where we differ apparently. i am fine being anywhere my friends are regardless how crowded or under crowded who the bar tenders is how many free drinks we get the size of the tv's (as long as one of them has the yankees game on). have i been hosed at lucky's on a tab yeah of course, but it happens when you hang out. have i had not the "greatest" service at the taqueria, uhm yeah, but the food is amazing. for years i have been dreading the day i wake up and DTJC is hoboken. its always had its own crowd, its own nightlife, its always been independant of manhattan and hoboken and brooklyn and thats what had made it so important to me and my friends. i have a suggestion to the dude who started this thread, grab your bike/vespa or hope a taxi/path over to hoboken, hang out where the cool kids hang, cause DTJC doesn't need the changes you are looking for, its got a life of its own.

Hi All

What type of businesses would you guys like to see downtown jersey city??

A-Ultra Lounge and Tappas w cool atmosphere, mix of music great drinks and dj. (Not club)

B-Hookah lounge (not sure if the city will allow this) Anyone with information please advise.

C-Very cool sports bar with oversized comfortable seating

D-More fashion boutiques for men? Women? Children? Or all in one store? What designers? Be specific -more basics or upscale (mention brands)?

E-What area would be best to start developing the "soho" like shopping district in JC? Is it Grove? Grand? The PAD?

F-Pizza Bar/Lounge serve great pizzas, but very cool place to relax and lounge and have good drinks

G-Wine Only Bar/Lounge

Any other suggestions would be great!!! Its time to bring some great spots to the city!

We need a Houlihans or TGIF in the newport mall, where the old Cosimos rest use to be.

That would be a welcome.

I suggest people will start investing in themselves and home comforts - Things for the home, renovations, white goods anything to make their lives comfortable.
Stores like ikea will do great - cheap but of good design.

Home entertainment will do great as well. Anyone with a few quarters after their mortgage payments will want value for money that has some sort of life behind it - Restaurants will suffer and so will flowers shops.

Think of businesses that gives you never ending enjoyment like dvds or cds then again a liquor store will also do great for those that see getting drunk as a way of enjoyment.

I have a few ideas, but I'll keep them to myself. See what franchises are doing well and why - pick the best items they sell with other items from other franchises and create your own.

We would love to open something but what is a good thing here and especially now? We looked at 2 Storefronts near us which just went on the market - they are both on Newark near Monmouth. I checked and one is by owner and is $1275 a month, while the other is renting for $1800+ with a Realtor. We really just looked in the windows and called the signs but what kind of thing would make money - we thought about doing a used bike with bike rental place but I think we are just dreaming, any real ideas out here?

I ditto that! I would also love a real good deli, with homemade food and an Apple Store.

1. Gourmet food store with very good produce and prepared foods that is open until at least 10 p.m. Garden of Eden would be perfect!
2. A wine and cheese store with knowledgeable staff and wine/cheese tasting events
3. A chocolate shop - preferably Leonidas - that also makes yummy hot chocolate!
4. A Spanish tapas bar with live music on weekends and very good sangria

Ahh a girl can dream!

Very good idea mentioned before to do more to help people laid off from Wall St jobs to partner up with other friends in the same situation and open businesses... There is a glut of smart, educated people who are now looking for a career change and there is no lack of retail/restaurant space or clientele in downtown JC!

Live music venue

Not a bar that sometimes has bands, a bona fide venue with good acoustics, a nice PA, and a comfortable setting. Mostly standing room, but also with seating and a bar? relatively small? somewhere around a 300-400 person capacity.

A nice restaurant ...not Burger King
clothing stores that are for people over the age of 18.

Places other than chinese that deliver.

1. A good Irish pub complete with pub grub and bartenders from the other side.

2. A really good fish store.

3. A family-style Italian restaurant that has good food and good prices like the ones in Bayonne.

As anyone who walks around downtown can tell, there's a lot of new commercial space being built -- something new just popped up on the corner of First and Jersey, Liberty Harbor, Newark Ave, etc.

Sooo, what's everyone's wish list? There's always so much griping on threads about "do we really need another X?", "Y just opened up and poisoned me!" and "why can't we have more Z?"

i'll start. i would love another great craft store / hardware store. bistros are always great (the new additions like OX and bon appetito made me happy). also more cute boutiques like Tia's and Aspasias.
