Here's what I got out of this story:

The alarm goes off a lot. The neighbor called the cops while the owner "shut it off from the key fob as always and rolled over to go back to bed, and then it went off again."

"As always" which indicates an awareness of an over-sensitive alarm that does not much more than annoy the neighborhood.

See ya.

Though it sucks that you got robbed I have to agree with icechute on this one. What is the point of an alarm if even the owner of the vehicle ignores it? 6am and you thought it was kids playing in the street?

That's a little insensitive, don't ya think?

Nickie, sorry to hear about your situation. The tone of this board is overkill jerkiness sometimes.

Yes, "as always"...because the kids who are outside ALL THE TIME across the street like to play with a tennis ball in the street...Not because our alarm is over sensitive by any means, but rather a stock car alarm.

People are such jerks. Why did I love Jersey City so much? Being robbed practically at gunpoint and having to deal with unsensitve morons...

I'm not sure if anyone in and around our block are on jclist, but I wanted to warn everyone, that as much as it seems like a forgotten block (1st street between Colgate and Brunswick) - it still is not forgotten by car thieves and the like. Our car was broken into Sunday morning at 6:00 am.

The front passengar window was cut out and 2 men - 1 who was in the drivers seat of a brand new silver Audi A4 ready for the quick getaway and the other was in the passenger seat of our car trying to steal the headunit. Luckily, our alarm went off, my boyfriend shut it off from the key fob as always and rolled over to go back to bed, and then it went off again, looked out the window and saw what was happening.

He ran outside and started yelling at the two guys who continued to try to steal the headunit. Finally the guy inside our car was like, man lets get out of here and the guy driving the Audi yelled at my boyfriend to back off as he started to reach for "something" in the center console...

The Audi sped off and when the cops arrived only about 2-3 minutes later (Thank you to our wonderful neighbor for calling the cops when the alarm first went off) said there was a report of another similar theft on the other side of downtown within minutes of ours.

The officer told us that these crooks come from Newark, "shop around" between the hours of 10-early morning to see what cars they want to hit...then they make their plans, what cars in what order and at 5:30-6:00 in the morning figuring it's Sunday, everyone will sleep in especially since it was raining. Hit up a few cars and then shoot back over to Newark.

We had nothing in the car, the face of the head unit was removed at the time, making the unit virtually worthless anyway and luckily the didn't take off with it, but it was broken in their haste.

I just wanted to warn others in our area or anywhere...and remind everyone to be safe about things. Having a gun almost pulled on my boyfriend - who has a short fuse/agressive streak and luckily didn't act on it yesterday or it could have been worse - has forced us to leave Jersey City, which we absolutely loved and did our part whenever possible to make it a nicer, friendlier place to live. In the 3 years we have lived her, while the progress has been noticeable, it still has a long ways to go...
