Tonight begins our final week of performances. Come on out and enjoy a free night of laughter at a beautiful park over looking the Manhattan skyline.

Note: Our Friday 7:00pm performance will be moved up the hill to the lawn in front of DeBaun Auditorium due to a scheduling issue at Frank Sinatra Park.

But all other performances:
Wednesday 7pm
Saturday 7pm
Sunday 3pm
will be at Frank Sinatra Park in Hoboken.

See you there!

Hello everyone,

A few months ago, The Hoboken Cultural Affairs Department invited us to produce a play at Frank Sinatra Park and I just wanted to let everyone know that we open tonight!

If you've never been, its a great little park that faces the Hudson - about 5 blocks up from the PATH station.

We will be running 3 weeks
(Wednesday, Friday and Saturday night at 7pm and Sunday afternoons at 3pm)

We hope to see some of our Jersey City supporters make the trip over to Hoboken to see "Moon Over Buffalo" - a really funny comedy that makes for great summer entertainment.

Full press release below. Thanks!

At
Frank Sinatra Park ? Frank Sinatra Drive between 4th and 5th Streets, Hoboken

On July 23, 2008, J CITY Theater, Jersey City?s newest professional theater company, is bringing its unique brand of dynamic theater to Hoboken?s Frank Sinatra Park when they open Ken Ludwig?s side-splitting comedy: Moon Over Buffalo. Performances will run July 23 through August 10: Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:00pm and Sunday afternoons at 3:00pm. Performances are Free.

Due to an opening in the summer performance calendar of the Hoboken Department of Cultural Affairs, J CITY Theater has been invited to stage a production at the famed Frank Sinatra Park. With the gracious support of David Zimmerman and The Theater Center at DeBaun, J CITY Theater is excited to bring this Tony Award-nominated comedy to Hoboken audiences.

Moon Over Buffalo is a madcap farce that reveals the backstage lunacy of a theatrical touring company in 1953. It is the story of George and Charlotte Hay, faded Broadway stars who have been exiled from Hollywood and are reduced to touring the country in tired old plays with a ragtag ensemble. But their dreams of making it big are revived when they learn that the Oscar-winning director, Frank Capra, is coming to the matinee to audition them for his next film.

George and Charlotte, who have a flaring Burton/Taylor-style relationship, are in the midst of a fantastic fight when opportunity knocks. Forced to deal with jealousies, mistaken identities, drunkenness and hilarious misunderstandings, they make every effort to salvage their production and stay true to that old theater tradition: The show must go on!

Ludwig captures the rich pandemonium that goes into a small theater company?s attempt to stage a show and has added murderous complications for heightened comedic effect. Originally opening on Broadway in 1995, Moon Over Buffalo is best known for bringing Carol Burnett back to Broadway after 30 years and earning her a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Play.

?The entire production and rehearsal process of this show has been great fun,? says Sandy Cockrell, J CITY Theater?s Artistic Director. ?In all of our productions, we tell the story with a sophisticated simplicity. Due to the nature of outdoor performances, we?ve been able to take this process even further and I think the result is a wild farce that really showcases our particular approach to theater.?

Clay Cockrell, J CITY Theater?s Executive Producer is grateful for all the support they have received from Hoboken. ?Mayor David Roberts, Geri Fallo at the Hoboken Cultural Affairs Department and David Zimmerman at The Theater Center have welcomed us with open arms. David in particular has provided us with local rehearsal space and created a home-away-from-home for us. As a Jersey City-based theater company, we are extremely grateful for all of the Hoboken support and I believe this show is a product of the new cooperation that has developed as a result of the founding of the Hudson County Theatre Alliance.?

J CITY Theater (www.jcity.org) is a not-for-profit professional theater company based in Jersey City, New Jersey. It is a founding company of the Hudson County Theatre Alliance (www.hudsonall.org) and has been producing locally since 2006. Recent productions include Archibald MacLeish?s J.B., Douglas Carter Bean?s As Bees In Honey Drown, and their annual Christmas show: A Tuna Christmas. It is J CITY Theater?s mission is to create quality, high energy theater that is told with sophisticated simplicity.
