Grandpa, you'll pay half that at Diamonds and Pearls on Varick street. Carmesha is the owner and the only stylist. She is terrific.

I go to Salon X, and I like it.
Sometimes I feel like $40 is a lot for a guy's haircut, but you know what, I only go about 4-5 times a year. I am willing to pay $200-$300 a year for how I LOOK. I don't spend a lot on clothes, and I don't own a car, so I am all for spending a few extra bucks for a haircut. I have sort of longer hair, and I don't always trust a men's barber to give me a cut that doesn't look like a bowl cut or worse. If you were lucky enough to find a guy in the mall that you trust, that's awesome. I have never been that lucky, so $40 it is!

I've gone to Salon X 3 times for haircuts with Paul. They are good haircuts, but it also kills me to pay $40.00 Which salon in the mall has operators who have been there for 18 years? I've never had one last more than 1-3 years.

val7107 - "eek!" Seriously, I'm a guy, and like I said I've been getting a fantastic cut 'in a mall place' for the past 9 years for $18.00. I really don't have to go into great detail here with my reply to you but in this case I'm compelled - I'd rather use the extra money with a mortgage payment on my new luxury loft or save to buy a new BMW ( not that I have to). Now, if this sounds a certain way, so be it - I'm stating these facts to drive home a point. If you wish to waste $40.00 at this salon - and you enjoy it - I say enjoy it! But it is not for everyone. And, "eeek" - one can still get a great haircut ( gasp! - in the mall!) for less.

I've been going there for a few months. I like it quite a bit.
Mall haircuts? eek. It's the first decent salon I've found outside of Manhattan.

Yeah, I gotta agree - $40.00 for a guy's haircut - that is really kinda silly. I don't care what schooling or special way the stylist would cut it - it is just plain silly. The place looks really nice, and I'd be tempted to try it - but certainly not for $40.00. I've been going to a great guy in the mall for the past 9 years - he does a great job - and it is $18.00.

Will not be going there again. Its a shame. Beautiful salon, but the last time was there, the cut was unfixable. I now have a "MOM" haircut, because I had to go somewhere else for them to fix what SALON X did.

I won't be going back. But really nice people. I was specific on what I didn't want and that is exactly what I got. My fault for walking out with pin straight hair smiling about it. Also, $40 for women's blow dry. Really nice people though, very, very nice.

So I went there on Saturday and I was very disappointed. The place and the service were great but the guy who cut my hair was not good and he couldn't even blow dry my hair (he even said so himself.)
I'm sad to say this but I won't be going back.

I get my hair cut at Japanese Salon in Manhattan and it is only $65. I have long thick curly hair. Everyone thinks it is easier to cut and blow out until they do it and I always get the "whoa you really do have a lot of hair" line.
That being said. Mika, lovely woman, does wonders with my hair. obviously they are really great at straightening. She cuts my hair wet, blows it out straight, then flat irons it, then cut it again to decrease the volume. She also gives me a 15 minute scalp massage(heaven) It is a pain in the butt to get there b/c it is in midtown East but well worth it. It is called Wave 55. Most places will charge you to blow dry your hair and then flat iron it(for them i am just saving them time). At my Salon I get everything all inclusive. I have been going there for two years now and I recommend the place to everyone

Paul's haircuts are really good. At $40 it's a very reasonable price especially compared to comparable quality in the city...

Tried it a little while ago and won't go back. The haircut was fine, but overpriced. I got charged for an additional service I didn't ask for, and the stylist I had was super-abbrasive and kind of scary.

Lori Greyshock (owner) and Paul Greyshock (manager, stylist and X-husband) held the official salon grand opening last evening to include a champagne reception. I attended the ribbon cutting ceremony before having to leave for Dorrian's JC List party and took a few pics that I've posted on my blog.
Although it is a hair salon, they also offer a variety of cowboy boots for sale. Howdy partner!

I have had Paul do my hair for years. I think that their prices are reasonable for a good hair dresser. You get what you pay for. Most of the products in SalonX are top of the line Italian, and Paul is a great hair dresser. Welcome to the Neighborhood.............

I think the prices are completely reasonable. If you want a $20 haircut go to a barber on Newark Ave. This place is clean, comfortable, the stylist are experienced and knowledgeable and my overall experience was very pleasant. I wouldnt exactly judge a place by a "bang trim", but i would judge a place by the environment, cleanliness, prices, experience, etc. I just got an invitation in the mail for their "open house" which is on July 31st in the evening, i think the invite said something about champagne and food. For the record, I love the guy in Hoboken that cuts my hair and i will remain loyal to him, however he doesnt do color so I am thrilled that this place is here and that they do a good job.

My experience is that in a good salon, they will recut hair if the client is unhappy with the result. I wonder if they would have offered to recut the bangs for free if you went back and complained. I would hope so... I do intend to give them a try, and hope they come through with a great cut...I want to support local businesses if at all possible.

You get what you pay for. Also if you want nice shops and restaurants in your neighborhood to increase the value of your property and to differeniate bootleg-ville and a nice neighborhood the prices are going to comparable to other nice places. Also, as someone in the business, we train for years and years to be great at our craft...it is an art. We deal with back and joint problems later in life and deal with clients that show up late for appointments or no show. We get paid ,for the most part on commission and tips so on a $60 haircut that's only about $24 before taxes and service fees that the stylist actually gets in their pay. No one is forcing you to go there. Go to a quick-cuts type of salon and get a busted haircut that's not even.

60 dollars for a haircut on 7th and Eerie is ridiculous. Even in Hoboken I wouldn't pay that price unless you go to Davida salon. I have really long hair and highlights that I always get compliments on. I get my hair done at Belkys in Weehawken. Total cost 75 dollars and my hair is so straight after she drys it that I don't have to wash it for 4 days.

For a women's haircut, the prices are very much in line with other places. I suppose they are too for men (for a salon, not the barber).

Men's haircuts start at $40, which is quite pricey. It'd be nice if they drop it to say, $20 for a quick buzz with a clipper.

Paul cuts my hair at Salon X and I pay the sixty bucks because I want to support them but mostly because I don't trust my long locks to just anyone!! He was trained by "the Paul Mitchell"... and he really does a great job.
I get the feeling that they're closed in the evenings.. or some evenings. I would think that they would do more business in the evenings after people return home from work. I also think they could use one of those sandwich boards on the corner to help advertise because it's kind of dark (during the day) and unless you know it's a hair salon you may not notice it. Just my opinion.
