These surveys are bogus for many reasons. The criteria for the top 100 best small cities (see below and http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bplive/2008/faq/) explain a lot. For example, income in JC is probably less than 85% of the NJ median and JC as a whole has high crime. Obviously if one has a good job and lives in a decent neighborhood this is irrelevant. What seems even more questionable is excluding "those that are more than 95% white". There goes much of the land mass of the U.S. and many nice towns and cities in northern New England. A clearly explained weighting (perhaps with options to change the weighting and maybe with an "I can't live with whitey" option), would have been more informative.

Here are the criteria for the top 100:
Start with all U.S. cities that have populations of 50,000 to 300,000.

Exclude retirement communities, places where income is less than 85% or more than 201% of the state median, and those that are more than 95% white.

Screen out cities with high crime, big population declines, significant unemployment or job shrinkage, and long commutes.

Rank remaining places based on job growth, income increases, cost of living, housing affordability, school quality, arts and leisure options, safety, medical care, diversity and several ease-of-living criteria.

Factor in more data on the economy, jobs, housing prices, schools and taxes.

Visit and interview residents, assessing intangibles like sense of community.

No word on if JC is #26 or #1057.

I would have liked them to investigate the ratio of single guys to girls in Hoboken and their average age. My guess is there are way more single guys. I would also be curious where each group goes to meet people of the opposite gender. My guess, most people say NYC.

The Hoboken crowd is getting worse and worse. Last time I was there I wanted to shed a tear it was so sad. Basically meathead douches trying to out BRO each other. Of course thats not all of Hoboken but you get the picture.

Oh my.. so will this be JCList Speed Dating?

Or a singles mixer?

I know the options are endless...

Something needs to be done to boost our rating.

This may also help our grade on next years sex poll!
