The old building near the path, not too old.

Just mental pictures, I barely recognize Downtown JC. Everytime I pass by there I say "WTF?! where that come from? "

I have recently seen some amazing, very old postcards for sale on Ebay that feature photographs of Jersey City.

There are a few listed now from the turn-of-the-century:

Agreed. The reference section should have old books chronicling the city's early years. Failing that, I remember seeing a book on Jersey City's history with tons of pics in the NJ travel/map section of Barnes and Noble (rt. 3, Clifton). There were others as well, Hoboken, Newark, etc...

Good luck.

Found another one of the waterfront listed as on top of the World Trade Center Pre-Goldman Sachs

This one is interesting because of what is not in the photo. No Columbus Tower, no Grove Pointe, no Gulls Cove. no Trump; they are all nascent stubs of towers. LHN is well under way in the background, so maybe 2006.

Family Images has a handful of photos from Jersey City and hudson County, a mixed assortment.

There are great old photos of Jersey City on the Library of Congress's site (www.loc.gov). I believe you'll be able to find them in various locations in their digital collections.

You can also check out The New York Public Library's digital collections (www.nypl.org).

Good luck!

Ive noticed that some of the images on google images are older, but only like 4-5 years old from the best I can tell.

I had my grandfather over last month, and he lived on Montgomery back in 1930 or so, went to Dickenson High School, and he was very shocked how downtown has changed. It is impossible to get any photos on the web.

I can say this , I've been working on the waterfront for the past 10 yrs here DTJC and when I started back in 1998,other than my place of employment, there were 2 other bldgs and the skyline was totally open and able to view from all sides.

The commercial bldg boom here has been a testament to the fact that Money talks and "BS" WALKS !

Good Luck on getting those Photos.

I posted Grand Street from the summer of 2005 compared to 2007, the major difference being Liberty Harbor North:

comparison photos

Its only 3 years, but LHN is a big development.

Also, Grove Pointe just before it became Grove Pointe.

Does anyone have any pictures of downtown JC before the real estate crazy of the past 5 years or so? I was curious to see the skyline/overhead of downtown.
