Were these boilers gold-plated? Sure, copper is currently expensive, but I have a hard time believing that's a half-mil in equipment.

Building looted of boilers, pipes
Tuesday, February 05, 2008 A Greenville apartment building under renovation was cleaned out of $500,000 in heating systems and building supplies, the owner told police yesterday. Two boilers, six hot water tanks, 10 doors, 70 baseboard heaters and copper pipes were found to be missing from the seven-unit building on Bergen Avenue when the owner, David Lapanitzky, of Brooklyn, went to the building yesterday, police reports said. Lapanitzky told police that the building's superintendent said everything was there when he was last in the building on Jan. 28 at 1 p.m. The burglars ripped out several wooden cabinets from the kitchens and bathrooms and made large holes in the walls throughout the building, police reports said, apparently to make it easier to remove the items. Police said it appeared that the burglars entered the vacant building through a boarded basement window. JOURNAL STAFF
