JC Parking authority is at

394 Central Avenue Jersey City, NJ 07307. Phone:(201) 653-6969

bring your license and registration and your checkbook. they do not accept cash or credit cards. i was just there last week. they have late hours til 8pm, i believe.

also make sure your address is on the license/registration. if you just moved bring your lease or PSEG bill or something with your JC address.

I was out before 8am -- i was here at 9:15 and in fact it said on the notice first spotted the car at 9:17am. I left at 9:30am so I was gone--they don't take pictures or right down everytime they drive by they just look at the last time they spotted the car. And the car was parked in a different spot. I was not in the zone for 2 hours. They love to boot cars in Paulus hook--today alone I saw 7 on cars.

I think the 2 hours start at 8am, so in that first case where you state you left around 8am, if somehow they saw you at 8am and also at 9:30am, they would assume 1.5 hours. If they had perfect timing to see you in the afternoon a boot on your car by 2:45.

Working from 9:30am to 4:30pm is only a 7 hour day, why not just work 30 minutes longer?

It can be registered here --it is easy to change that --I had to do it with old car when I moved here. But it still won't have my name on the registration--it has my dad's and when I went to the PA--they require that the name match the lease and a utility bill.

Rat, I don't think it works the same as the 6 point system for drivers license. This is what I found on the MVA site, why can't you register the vehicle here. MVA requires that the registration and Insurance is the same address, so are you 100% sure that this can't be done?

Wait, why can't the car be registered in JC, if the car can be insured in J.C. why can't it be registered as well? The finance company holds the title that your dad sign the loan for, this should have nothing to do who who uses the car and where the car is kept. All the finance company cares about is who is responsible for the debt. I'm sure you've explored all the options, it just seems odd that it can't be done. (registering the car in JC)

You will not be able to get a parking permit unless your car is registered in Jersey City. That is the rule. I don't see why they would make an exception.

In the last 2 months I have been booted cause the car is listed in my dad's name (he lives in South Jersey). I can't get the registration name changed over to my address therefor I cannot get a parking permit. My car was booted at the beginning of February (for the second time this year). I am fighting the ticket and have a courtdate for later this month. I have a lease, bills and my DL is all listed in Jersey City- I also have proof of car insurance with this address. On the day I was booted I was leaving for Vegas for a vacation. I was up early and out doing some last minute shopping (left around 8am). I came back around 9:15 and then left again at 9:30 to go to work. I drove back home around 2:15pm and got a quick shower and was headed to my car to take to the airport and found my car was booted. When I called they explained you only get 2 hours total (whether you leave or not) free parking in the zone (I was not parked in the zone for 2 hours that day). I had to pay $110 that day and she was nice enough to delay when I to return the boot till I got back from vacation.

Has anyone fought a ticket like this. I am hoping the judge will approve that I can get a permit since I am a resident (at this location for 4 years and I do have proof of the car being insured at this address). Just curious if anyone else has had this problem.

Ratpack- This is a tough issue, but before you state all of this on court record, check with your dad. Insurance terms of agreements are very strict. ie: When we apply for our policies one of the first questions that is asked is: Where is your car parked at night? You may be violating your policy agreement. I'm not sure how it works but isn't there a way your dad can be a co-signer and put the car in your name, this way you wouldn't have so much drama. Also, FYI if you file a claim ie: stolen car and the insurance investigators finds out that there was a user agreement violation they may deny the claim. Be careful.....

Originally, about a year ago, a realtor told me that street parking was $5 a year in Jersey City. I found an official application that says $10. Another website says it's $15. Then another says $10.

I would like to apply by mail. (Is it possible?)

Thanks a lot.

The parking fee is now $15. I just renewed back in November. I believe if this is your first permit you will have to go to the office on Central Ave. They will need a copy of your lease and utility bill, as well as your vehicle registration showing a JC address. You can renew each year by mail.

It's $15; it had been $10 but the fee went up.

You can print an application off of the net and mail it in with a $15 check plus a photocopy of your license and registration. If your license and registration don't match your current JC address then I'd say go to the Parking Authority with the aforementioned plus proof of address (a copy of your lease or mortgage papers or utility bill).

Good luck.

Attention everyone, the parking authority needs cash so there working overtime and ticketing vehicles at night. I just saw two trollies giving out tickets around Lincoln Park and not honking! So if your one of those lazy people that likes to park in front of a fire hydrant at night, you've been warned!

Steve,

Not that you don't have enough to worry about..... but if redistricting the parking would also entail changing the times and days the street cleaners come, could you let us know about it here?

I live on a street that is no parking 10 am to noon on alternating days, and around the corner it's 8 am to 10 am on alternating days.

So, at 8 in the morning (before work) I can pull the car from the 10 am spot, and right after the street cleaner passes, pull into the 8 am spot. Then I'm good in that spot for 3 days (I mostly only use the car on the weekends).

At least for my work schedule it is so convenient it's practically a selling point for my house! If I lived on a block where it was 10 am to noon on my street and 1 pm to 3 pm around the corner, I'd be screwed for parking, because I have to be at work at that time.

So if there are any plans to make changes, I'd like to opportunity to moan about it!!

Regarding parking: As discussed this weekend, we are rezoning this block as well as 700 Grove into existing parking zones in downtown. I agree with the complaint that we have residents of the city living here and should be entitled to park as the rest of us. I will likely have this on the next agenda as well as a drop off zone for St. Bridgettes school on Montgomery to ease some of teh difficulties in the morning

Finally, my guess by early 2008 we will have an ordinance that will chnage the parking downtown signfifcantly creating two broader zones (one more focused on Residential West of Washingotn aprox and one for the offices East of Washington aprox). Lots of reasons why this makes sense but the current system is antiquated based on development, is very difficult to enforce properly, and is not fair/equal to all residents in any zone as some have significant advantages based on location within the existing zones. I will be back on this one once I have a draft.

Hope that helps.
Sincerely
Steven Fulop

I spoke with Councilman Fulop over the weekend. It was very gracious of him to call.

Anyways, he says that do have to survey to allow my building in the zone. Crazy that the city has to pay a bunch of engineers hundreds if not thousands of dollars for a few days work so some paper pusher can sign off on a form with a clear conscience. It’s funny how sometimes the letter of the law gets followed and others the whole law just gets thrown out.

As for the cars on the cobble stone, those are supposed to be spots for the sales office but I get the feeling that guards and anyone with an "in" at the office of Dixon Mills parks there.

ugh-- that sucks Mikey.., obviously that building there should be able to have a street permit. Who actually gets to park right in front of your building? There's always cars there.

Jasco, in my interaction with them, has been beyond horrible in essentially every aspect... sorry you're stuck with 'em.

as for the guards, good LORD. I truly don't know what they do short of park illegally and glare when you walk by. Though one did loan me a snow shovel once... I brought her cookies to thank her.. :)

WHAT is with the Wayne St. gates now opening with a code? I assumed that was for the Jasco building to access their homes with cars when they needed to..did you get a code?

The grid/list/map that the PA director referenced only had Wayne St up to 139 listed, no other inclusions or exclusions etc.

All Jasco says on the rare occasion I get them on the phone is that they don't have any spots open. Or that I should talk with Dixon Mills, which is obviously bad information.

I noticed that they did something to the gates. Maybe they put the code in beucase it's too hard for the guards to get out of the booth to open it when a car comes.

Anyone have any luck getting a parking permit when they’re not in a zone but actually are? Any suggestions for useful contacts?

I live on Wayne St within the Dixon Mills gates but my building isn’t owned or operated by Dixon Mills. My building/management company (Jasco) doesn't have parking available and won't return phone calls.

So I go to the Parking Authority to get a street permit, they tell me that I’m not in a zone because I’m within the Dixon Mills gate and Dixon Mills should provide parking (they don’t.) Their only suggestion is that I contact my councilmen.

I’ve contacted Fulop’s office but I doubt that is going to help at all because Fulop’s office tells me that surveying has to be done to rezone or something. I don’t understand why someone needs to survey. All the PA has to do is pick up the phone and confirm that my apt isn’t part of Dixon Mills and ok my permit.

They might have gotten the sticker for business purposes. I think you can get a sticker for an out of state plate if it's being used for business, but of course the cost is a lot higher.

I find Liberty Mutual to be one of the most expensive. I was paying like $1700 for a 90 beat up Honda Accord (of course no collision and bare bones insurance). Mercury or NJ Manufactuers will save you quite a bit if you have good credit. Also consider garaging it if you will worry about it on the street-may actually pay for itself in insurance.
