This really freaks me out. I live on Manhattan between Central and Summit and had no idea that any of this had gone on until watching the news tonight.

Does anyone else have any information?

Apparently The Guardian Angels don't "do" neighborhoods at such altitudes. It gives them nosebleeds. Otherwise, I'm sure they'd have been there.

So much for Healy's community policing.

guess the 5 police that cover the whole heights can't really be everywhere. go figure. I can't wait to see these postings increase during the summer.

Teen gangs suspected in 2 crimes

Jersey Journal
Monday, April 02, 2007

Jersey City police are investigating two assaults committed by a gang of at least 10 youths in the Jersey City Heights within 20 minutes of each other on Friday night.

In the first incident, a 16-year-old Jersey City boy was pistol whipped by a gang around 10 p.m. at Central and St. Paul's avenues, police said.

The Central Avenue victim told police he was struck several times by a black 9 mm handgun. The beating caused his lip and left eye to swell and he was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center, police said.

Twenty minutes later, a 19-year-old Jersey City man was chased by a gang and stabbed in the back and left triceps, police said.

The victim and a friend noticed they were being chased by a gang of young people they didn't recognize and ran west on Manhattan Avenue, police said.

By the time the victim reached Summit Avenue, the gang had caught up to him, and left him bleeding from stab wounds to the back and triceps, police sai.

The Leonard Street victim was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was treated and released, officials said. His friend was not injured.

Police did not say if they thought it was the same group of youths involved in both incidents. Anyone with information should call (201) 547-JAIL.
