The police were "acting on a tip from a confidential informant"

Armed Heights man seized as 'dealer'

Saturday, May 12, 2007

Jersey City cops arrested a suspected drug dealer yesterday morning and charged him with numerous drug and weapons charges.

Acting on a tip from a confidential informant, cops had their eyes on Remy Castillo, 20, of New York Avenue in Jersey City, who, according to the informant, had been dealing drugs from a green car with tinted windows, police said.

Cops said they saw Castillo park the car in a marked bus stop yesterday morning. When they approached him to issue a parking violation, they noticed that he smelled of burned marijuana and that he was clutching something - later found to be a bag of marijuana.

Cops arrested Castillo and then searched his car, turning up a marijuana blunt in the ash tray, a large plastic bag containing six smaller bags of cocaine in a door panel, and a loaded handgun in a floor panel, police said.

When cops took Castillo to police headquarters, they discovered he was carrying more than $4,000 in cash, which police confiscated under the assumption that it was proceeds from his drug dealing, police said.

In addition, cops discovered that the serial number on Castillo's handgun had been scratched off, police said.
