For 5+ years, drivers couldn?t make this left turn in Jersey City. That?s about to change

For more than five years, drivers haven?t been allowed to make a left hand turn at one of Jersey City?s busiest intersections. That?s set to change this weekend.

The state Department of Transportation plans to reopen the left turn lane on Route 1&9 Truck south at Communipaw Avenue over the weekend. The lane was removed in early 2014 as part of the billion dollar project to rehabilitate the Pulaski Skyway.

Heavy congestion and delays are expected at the Communipaw Avenue intersection with Route 1&9 Truck and Route 440 this weekend while road work takes place. Motorists are advised to avoid the area this weekend.

Work crews will close lanes on Route 1&9 Truck south and Route 440 north just before the intersection with Communipaw Avenue for pavement restriping, signage, and traffic signal work. The closures will run from 11 p.m. Friday until 7 p.m. Sunday.
