Call the tax dept. they have the details of your tax abatement on file. They are usually very helpful in explaining the details of your abatement which is better everyones hearsay on a message board.

This 100%. The tax office at the city is very nice, and very helpful.

I have a question regarding property tax abatement and hope someone can help me clarify a little on the topic...

I am living in a Liberty Harbor area condo unit. This is a "brownstone" building, which means one unit per floor with exact the same floor plan.

My neighbors (upstairs and downstairs) used to pay the same amount of tax as mine.

This year the tax abatement expired (I don't know the exact number of the abatement deal but it seems to be around 2017), of course there is a tax hike (ouch!)

However, I noticed my downstairs neighbors still has the exemption in their assessment so they pay about the same as last year. My upstairs neighbor has no more exemption as me for 2018 tax, hence we both pay more (but same amount between us).

Is this common or correct that even in the same building, the tax abatement term can be different? Or is this because when the building was first constructed, the sale date made a difference?

Any suggestion will be appreciated!
