Like where? Most Chinese sucks outside of the actual chinatowns in Manhattan, Flushing and SF. Have you tried Grand Sichuan or the downscale takeout King Szechuan in the Heights? The latter makes some very tasty stuff like 3 pepper chicken or double sauteed pork with salt cured meat, and they use actual szechuan peppercorns. They have 2 menus, Szechuan and "Americanized Chinese". They're a hidden gem.

I think it depends on what you get - as a vegan they will let you really tell them what and how you want the sauce. I always get no thickening - no corn starch etc. I don't do garlic and I like a sweet spicy sesame sauce - but I also don't order there often - or off the menu. Just ask them for what you want. Future too...

Like you I also miss futures Mexican take out. We would get their Chinese vegetables in a taco shell often. There really needs to be a better buritto take out joint.

Sen Hai is better at sauces

Really? I gave up them many years ago as too bland and gloppy.

To me what set BC apart was it was a pleasant place to eat in, unlike all the other primarily takeout joints with a couple of tables.

Sen Hai is better at sauces and Future is better at green vegetarian ingredients - both are fine.

Since '97, I've always enjoyed Big Chef, definitely above average to good American Chinese delivery - and man were they fast most of the time.

Anything comparable downtown - Sen Hai?

Man, this makes me sad. I recall when this was the only decent place to order food from in dtjc, when I move there in '96. While I moved to another part of JC 6 years ago - and tried other Chinese places, none were as solid/good as BC. I'm really sad to see them go. Plus, they are really nice people and they always kept their prices fair, despite the rising costs of the area.

I think that's exactly what happened. One day they closed, spent a week doing renovations, then reopened as East Village. They stayed open for about a week and now their selling the space. I saw a few people outside the other day... potential buyers??

Bummer, that was my favorite place for doing an "eat in" lunch special, especially in the winter for the H&S soup.

Haven't seen this posted here, but I'm wondering what is happening with Big Chef on Jersey Ave. It was closed for a while and then it looked like they had renovated and renamed the place East Village. But I still haven't seen it open and there's a for-sale sign in the window.

Anyone know what's up?
