Thanks for all of the help. I ended buying 160 bags of garden soil from home depot on sale.

I heard the garden center on Kennedy is closing to make way for condos. :(

It depends how much you need and if you have a driveway or space where they could drop off, say, 5 cubic yards. In suburbia I'd have 10 yards of mulch dropped off every couple years to dress my beds, and share with a neighbor. There are plenty of places to search that will supply soil, mulch, dressing, etc.

Try this place:

Matera's
514 Broad Ave
Ridgefield, NJ 07657
Phone number (201) 943-8288

It's on 1 & 9 - about 5 minutes past the Home Depot in North Bergen. It's a pretty good "old fashioned" gardening center and I think they sell bulk soil and compost materials.

Linky said "bulk" not bags.

I don't know if such a thing exists, especially as you're asking for a completed product, not topsoil, which usually needs to be amended for beds with drainage and water retention stuff like sand and peat. If you find bags labeled "garden soil" usually they're mostly compost and other organics that are designed as an amendment. http://www.miraclegro.com/smg/goprod/ ... prod11730025?locale=en_US

I have never worked out why containers and beds need different soil formulas, there's a lot of conflicting info out there.

There's Home Depot, or the local family-owned 14th Street Garden Center at 14th and Jersey:

I'm making large planter beds for vegetables. Any recommendations for a place that sells garden soil in bulk? Organic or at least safe for veggie gardens would be a plus.

Thanks in advance.
