Jersey City Builders Host Game of ‘Can You Top This?’

A residential tower in the works will take over the title of New Jersey’s tallest building, but several planned projects will be nipping at its heels

THE WALL STREET JOURNAL - by Josh Barbanel  Jan. 25, 2017 3:29 p.m. ET

Since 2004, a 781-foot tower protruding into the Hudson River in Jersey City, also known as the Goldman Sachs building, has been the tallest building both in Jersey City and the state of New Jersey.

It is about to lose its crown.

Last year, ground was broken on a 79-story residential tower set to rise to close to 900 feet at 99 Hudson St., which will become No. 1 when it is opens in about 2019.

Several other towers in the early planning stages at a new high-rise neighborhood at Journal Square, 2 miles inland, might come close.
