Curtis Sliwa slams Jersey City council 'putzes' and 'hipsters' for lifting boom box ban

Curtis Sliwa is attacking Jersey City council members as "schmucks" and "putzes" for the city's new noise law.

On Sliwa's WABC radio show yesterday, the founder of the Guardian Angels went on an extended rant against Jersey City and its "hipster" mayor and City Council members for adopting a new law Wednesday that targets noise.

The measure replaces an older noise ordinance that included a ban on boom boxes not found in the new law. Eliminating the boom box ban, Sliwa said yesterday on his radio show, spells doom for peace and quiet in Jersey City.

JERSEY CITY — Music lovers, rejoice! The decades-old Jersey City law banning the use of boom boxes in public will soon be history.

The City Council tonight unanimously approved a new noise ordinance that replaces the city's current law, which bans outright any use of boom boxes in public.

If you do still have an operational boom box, you won't be able to blast it too loudly: the new law requires anyone playing music outside to make sure that new Drake single is not "plainly audible" from a distance of 50 feet during the day (25 feet after 10 p.m.).
