Jersey City school board won't let retired cop bring gun to meetings

JERSEY CITY — The school board has given a thumbs down to its newest member's request to carry his gun to board meetings.

John Reichart, as a retired NJ Transit cop, is allowed by federal law to carry a concealed weapon anywhere in the United States. But state law requires him to obtain approval to carry his gun inside schools — the board generally meets at School 11 — and last night his fellow board members denied his request.

Reichart, who works for local developers Paul and Eric Silverman, told The Jersey Journal he's been carrying a gun since he was 19 years old, and "at this point, it's second nature."
