Patrick McGovern | The Jersey Journal

Service between the Liberty State Park station and the West Side Avenue station on the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail system will be restored at 4:30 a.m. tomorrow, according to NJ Transit spokeswoman Nancy Snyder.

Service had been suspended since late November, when a high-pressure sewer line ruptured between Randolph Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive.

Service has been suspended at the Garfield Avenue, Martin Luther King Drive and West Side Avenue stations since Nov. 20. Substitute bus service was available for passengers needing to travel between stations.

NJ Transit has finished pulling up damaged track and laying down new track in the affected areas. NJ Transit crews need to wait until after the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority (MUA) completed their work to finish work on the tracks.

In November, William Smith, a spokesman for NJ Transit, said crews had to rebuild the grade underneath the tracks due to ?pretty extensive damage? and then lay down new track. New power cables also had to be installed, as power was lost to the section of track where the rupture took place.

I saw the buses idling outside the LSP station and assumed they are still running them back and forth. Perhaps trains are running in a single direction? Some more information from NJT would be nice. The most recent alert on the matter says the same as before: still no trains at those stations.

I saw a Westside lightrail train last night, so I assume its back up and running.

I am not sure about that. They may have been running test trains. A long parade of the replacement buses could still be seen this morning by the LSP stop.

Anyone have any idea when NJ Transit expects this line to be back up and operational? It has been down due to a sewer main break.
