I have no issue with having more Police in the Heights. But, to Kitten's point, the article says "officers and supervisors fanned out across the city's south and west districts,". The Heights is in the North District. I'm actually more concerned that they may reallocate Heights officers to those areas where there have been shootings over the last several weeks.

FYI. There is a meeting with the new Public Safety Director at PS 28 (167 Hancock) this Monday at 6:30. Hope those looking to improve the Heights show up so we don't end up losing our cops to other areas.

Police make nearly 50 arrests in Jersey City during multi-agency sweep, officials say

Rafal Rogoza / The Jersey Journal

Jersey City police made 47 arrests on a variety of charges including a range of narcotics offenses during an overnight operation by multiple law enforcement agencies, city officials announced earlier today.

?For the second week in a row, the Jersey City Police Department has targeted the areas that historically have been the source of ongoing crime problems and used the intelligence gathered to arrest those offenders involved in the drug activity which leads to violence on our streets,? said Mayor Steve Fulop in a press release.

Last weekend officials announced the arrest of 36 individuals during a similar two-day police sweep which led to the recover of multiple weapons. Those arrested during that operation ranged in age from 16 to 51-years-old.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m. yesterday, upwards of 40 plainclothes officers and supervisors fanned out across the city's south and west districts, conducted surveillance of hot spot locations, gathered important criminal intelligence, and made multiple arrests, officials said.

A second part of the operation involved another group of 40 uniformed Jersey City police officers, including Emergency Squad officers, Motorcycle Squad officers and officers from the Hudson County Sheriff's Office who together targeted hot spot locations that were monitored by earlier teams, officials said.

More than two dozen municipal ordinance and motor vehicle summonses were also issued as part of the operation, officials said.

?We are taking a new approach to how the JCPD is working to solve public safety issues and these arrests are a step in the right direction,? said Mayor Fulop in a statement. ?We will continue to allocate police resources to those locations experiencing the highest levels of crime, so that all of our residents can feel safe.?

The Jersey City Police Department led the operation with cooperation from the Hudson County Sheriff's Office, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office, and the federal Drug Enforcement Agency, officials said.
