Hey Steven! Did you listen to the voice message you left about the cooling centers? Did you time it? Do you know how long that message is? Next time, find someone who can speak faster please, especially if it is an emergency. I thought the Hurricane Irene and Sandy messages were awful. This one ain't any better. I went to the bathroom and came back and it was still playing.

Dear Residents;

Mayor Steven M. Fulop and the Jersey City Office of Emergency Management (OEM) announce that the City will open two cooling centers and two senior centers, today, Saturday, July 6th, and tomorrow, Sunday, July 7th, as temperatures are expected to reach the 90?s both days. Hours will also be extended at six public libraries both days.

Community centers are the Mary McLeod Bethune Community Center, 140 Martin Luther King Drive and the Pershing Field Community Center, Pershing Field Complex (corner of Summit Avenue and Pershing Field Plaza). Both locations will be open until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow for residents to cool off.

The two senior centers that will be opened are the Joseph Connors Senior Center (Paterson Street Center), 28 Paterson St. off of Central Avenue and the Maureen Collier Community Center, 335 Bergen Avenue between Ege and Virginia Aves. Both locations will be open until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow for residents to cool off.

The following libraries will be open to the community at large with extended hours from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday:

Main Library, 472 Jersey Avenue
Five Corners Library, 678 Newark Avenue
Greenville Library, 1841 John F. Kennedy Boulevard
Glenn D. Cunningham Library, 275 Martin Luther King Drive
Miller Branch Library, 489 Bergen Avenue
The Heights Branch Library, 14 Zabriskie Avenue
This weekend the following municipal pool sites will have special hours and will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.:

Pershing Field Pool, 201 Central Avenue
**Entrance Fee/Membership Required per admittance

Lafayette Pool & Aquatic Center
Rev. Ercel Webb/Lafayette Park, Johnston Ave. & Van Horne St.

Pavonia Pool, West Side and Pavonia Avenues
